Cam's Beef with the Local Media

One possible answer reminds me of when I was a little kid and spent weeks at a time on my grandparents' farm in Nowheresville SC. One week, this little baby chicken attached himself to me. He'd come when I called his name (Biddy) and eat feed out of my hand. He was different from all of the other chickens. They all were red. So was he, but his head was white. The others pecked at his head until it bled. Grandma put Mecurichrome (sp?) on it to prevent infection with the side benefit of coloring his head red too. But Biddy had a white head for too long. Even though he had changed to conform, one day later, I found him next to a sweet potato bed dying, after I chased the others, who ran off cackling loudly.

That, hard as it is to believe I'm sure, is the absolute truth, and there's a moral in there for some of you, and for Cam.

PS...My best vacation buddy down there, Raymond, was as black as I am white. He helped me bury Biddy. Then we went inside and ate Biddy's momma for lunch.

Read the second para again. If you stick out like a sore thumb, expect to get pecked on. 

The first is an unnecessarily long winded attempt at being PC to ask: All the other guys are black and nobody is ragging' on them, and the same guys that criticize Cam like the other guys a lot, so how can they be racist?

The PS is also true, except that particular fried chicken might have just been Biddy's cousin, and not his actual mama.

Anything else before I go have some more chicken? It's on sale today at HT...already cooked!

Truth is truth. He went on to be a football star down there last I heard before going off to school. He sure kicked my butt in the sand. You guys who invariably lump all us whities together as having some collective racist agenda make us feel to compelled to try and demonstrate somehow that you can't do what you do without being racist yourself. Get it?

Next July, if you want to go pick a great watermelon in the capital of it go for a ride that way and I'll tell where the houses are, his and my grandparents.They probably still grow them. dunno.

But people here get so bent out of shape when you question dynamics within the white community. Truth is, a lot of white people in my opinion will be quicker to rise to the defense of those they identify most with versus those of a different skin color. Not all of it is malicious cross burning racism, but it happens. You see it all across social media in equality related discussions, especially regarding police killings.

This is human nature, it’s not a “white people thing”. If you feel disconnected to something and can’t relate to it personally, you tend not to care as much.  I don’t like that it’s this way, but it’s how people are wired. If something terrible happens, it’s much more real to you if you pause and reflect that this could’ve easily happened to your mother, father, brother, sister, etc. 

 

Are you this critical of the news/Social Media when they place a greater emphasis on domestic tragedies and largely neglect, say, the coverage for a bombing in Syria with a much greater death toll? Or when people all over the country were pouring their hearts/opening their wallets to the Hurricane victims in Texas and Florida, but were nowhere to be found when it came to Puerto Rico and the nearby islands that were devastated on a much larger scale? Or is this simply only racial to you?

I didn't read it that way.

The way I read it, the story is saying that the people that are "pecking" on Cam are animals and not rational human beings.

But, seriously, if the "moral" you get from your story is that the "pecked on" Biddy should conform instead of the "peckers" stopping their vicious pecking, I don't think you learned *anything* from your own story.

I’m fairly certain you don’t even grasp what you’re getting at yourself. I think any time Cam’s name comes up, you feel the need to grasp at something...even if blindly.

Quit trying to be logical with some of these trolls. “They see you ridin... they trolling “

Regardless of some decent points when it come to race, anyone that says “white people” as opposed to “some white people”  or “some angry racist white folk” or “backwoods white folk “  I can’t take seriously . 

You cant clump 250 million people into a couple of words. It’s utterly rediculous. It’s very difficult to have a logical conversation like that. 

Again,  good points to look at and discuss but using terms that clump so many people into one category is almost impossible to elicit an honest conversation. 

Trying to push buttons in the guise of honest conversation isn’t the way to go about it.
