When will CAP get his shot this year?

CAP was our most productive running back during the preseason by a long shot. He showed the ability to lower his shoulder and fight for yardage, make defenders miss in open space ( more so than i've seen CMC do in 7 games honestly) and burst through the hole. His game seemed to have came a long ways in the small sample size.

Our running game is crap anyways so it's not like we have anything to lose. It's just frustrating seeing this coaching staff do the same over and over and expecting different results. He's a 3rd year player who was already old for a rookie out of college anyways. I mean c'mon give the man a chance.

I’m not sure it would matter. McCaffrey also looked pretty good in preseason rushing the ball, and looks pretty awful at it now.

As a unit, we looked really good for the most part running the football during the preason.

Its that inbred idiot Shula who took something that was working, albeit preason, and butchered it.

nothing changed on Shula's end.

what change was defensive coverage to our offense.  Preseason teams run more base and generic looks and want to try stuff out.

Once the season started, opposing defenses started putting 8 and even 9 guys in the box to smash our RBs and dare us to beat little to no coverage on our WRs. 

the run game isn't going to be there until we throw ourselves out of the current problem.  well it might be there against bad defenses but not good ones.

CAP days were numbered once CMC got drafted. Anyway no RB in history can run behind this oline the way they are performing, so its a moot point.

I'd say CAP is just Stewart's insurance policy but then we use Fozzy more frequently so I don't know about that. Our depth at RB isn't clearly defined beyond Stewart and CMC, really.

Similar running style to Stew. Think part of it is everybody's fear that Stew will be done soon and we won't have that powerful, workhorse type back anymore so we cling to guys like CAP as the bridge to us having that again.

Truth be told, the Kareem Hunt/CMC types are going to be the next stage. The Stewart-types are sort of obsolete with the speed of defenses now. Offensive lines in general just aren't as good at run blocking and those power backs aren't especially useful if there isn't a solid gap with at least 2-3 yards in front of them. The whole purpose is the ability to lower your shoulder and fall forward for that extra yard or two or run over the first defender and pick up an additional 3-5 yards. Now, it's a lot more about creating space in the run game so your quick, shifty backs can get to the LB level quickly, make a cut and be gone.

I don't agree with that. I think the 'stewart-types' are still completely relevant if you have any kind of blocking that could be interpreted as acceptable. Its not like stewart is a one dimensional brandon jacobs type, he's one of the most athletic running backs of the past decade overall for his size.
