Context - Why Daryl Williams Supposedly Looks "Good" While Matt Kalil Sucks

For those who study our offensive line woes, most want Taylor Moton starting. After all, it is clear Daryl William's lack of athleticism for the tackle position is hurting us, which even the Panthers notice.

While he's been getting PFF's praise, one fact helps clear the muddy waters - how much help he gets.

And, according to this statistic, he's one of the top OTs when it comes to getting help:

That right there shows why Daryl Williams has been looking "good." He gets the most help from our o-line, with Trai Turner having to compensate a lot. If he were to try and hold on his own, it's very likely he'd make Matt Kalil look like an all-pro.

Speaking of Matt Kalil, he appears to be getting little to no help himself. That's why he looks absolutely terrible out there, because the Panthers are dedicating their resources to help Daryl Williams. That and he really lacks the power that is needed to go against the average NFL DE.

So, thoughts?

All three of the guys getting more help than Williams was a high 1st round pick. (6, 8, and 11 overall to be specific).

How have there been so many disappointing 1st round OTs in recent years? OL used to be considered the safest 1st round pick you could make. Now it seems one of the riskiest.

Also, how in the hell do the Titans have two of the top three OTs getting the most help? Is anyone actually running a route?

Regarding Kalil, you don't pay an OT $55M to help him out. You pay him that to anchor that side of the OL. Williams is a young mid-round pick. It's not surprising to see him getting help. We simply paid Kalil to be something he isn't. But, Shula has to understand this and realize he doesn't have an elite LT over there or anything even close to it, contract be damned.

Now that Cam has started to break down all thos is being seen. I know Cam is no way perfect but he has masked alot pf flaws on offense and so has Stew and Olsen, Kahil all are breaking down.. These so called coaches cant even draft or sign anyone to help them bc they do not know who to play or when to play players just as well as play designs and play calls. Such a waste of time and talent.

Exactly! The coaches shouldn't worry about who is getting paid what, but who is struggling or needs help.

I haven't watched every play of every game like some of you. From what I've seen at times this year, it looks like Williams has trouble with guys coming off of the edge on pass plays. He doesn't seem to have the agility and quickness to play in space against the better DE's. Do any of you think he could possibly function better in the NFL as a guard?
