Do y'all think JR would just hand the GM job back to Hurney?

all depends on how this season go.

we make the postseason? Hurn-dawg sits on the Iron throne of GM world.

we have a losing season?  Hurn-dawg helps hire a GM and that GM then evaluates the Ron era and probably gives Ron a year to "prove" something....whatever that means IMO.

probably tin foil hat talk, but i think hurney was probably in JR's ear talking about how mean gettleman was and that he would do things better and bring back the family atmosphere. make this place happy and content (and fine with losing) again.

seriously...we had such a horrible comfortable with losing culture that took so long to overcome and i can easily see us slipping back into it again.

I believe this wholeheartedly.  This entire debacle has the smell of Hurney all over it.

My thinking is that JR saw this season coming back before training camp and he fired Gettleman and then stopped just short of cleaning house on the coaching staff because of the late date. He wasn't going into training camp with no coach as well, since most of the GM duties had already been done. He tapped Marty to come in because he would have the shortest ramp up time for the team, not because he is meant to be here permanently.

And I think the straw that broke the back was McDermott. I think Richardson wanted McDermott to stay here and take over once Rivera was shown the door. Gettleman wouldn't pull the trigger on RR, leaving McDermott to head north to Buffalo. At that point it was fire Gettleman, but too late to retain Beane, who I think would have been sitting in Marty's seat right now had things moved faster. Instead of Charlotte of the North in Buffalo, we'd have had those guys down here.

I really believe, now, that RR and Co. are dead men walking when it comes to their employment. And they know it. The team knows it. And we're just going to have to ride out the season before it all plays out. Sadly, you'd think the coaches would want to make a good impression before hitting the job market again, as well as some of the players who will be entering free agency.

Wish I could say I was wrong on all of this, but it sure does seem like the logical take on it all.

Don't think it went down like this...I think it was much simpler.

JR wants things run his way...the Southern way, the family way.

He values a good locker room over a winning record.  He wants to be knows as a great owner, and leader of men.

DG wanted to win.  He wanted to clean up the absolute mess left to him from Hurney.  He had a plan, and that meant cutting some of JR's favorites, and playing hardball with some others...you know, like football teams do every single day.

JR could take it until it came to TD and Olsen, and that was the straw.

Also, in my heart of hearts, I think that DG was probably putting heat on RR to move on from Shula, and Ron was reluctant...as was JR...hence the walking papers.

It was just another episode of a meddling owner, doing the wrong thing for his franchise.

There could be some truth to this. Only time will tell some enough.

Time will tell us what is going to happen, but none of the parties involved will probably tell us anything about the whys.

The idea that any of us have the business smarts or understanding that Jerry Richardson does is pretty asinine, though. There are a number here who think he is a doddering old fool with no understanding of the principals of management, business, professional football or even human resources.

Luckily, they consume his product rather than the other way around.

Business smarts don't equal football smarts.

Dan Snyder built a multimillion dollar business empire. As a football team owner, he's dog s--t.

Wtf changed with Gettleman here outside of Cam and Luke maturing? Both were already here. What else happened? O yea the NFC south was bad so we won the division 3 straight years. Gettleman ain’t change poo, it’s why we still haven’t had back to back winning seasons.

If you want to say Hurney ain’t the answer, fine I agree. But don’t talk about a losing culture we overcame when we were still an up and down team.

If Hurney and/or the coaching staff is here next year I'm not going to watch them anymore. I've already boycotted them now.

I refuse to watch this putrid shiit.

I'll watch, like I do every year, but only once it's too ugly to be outside, or doing something fun.

If I can fish, boat, walk downtown with my wife, etc...I may just do that for a while.  Then settle back in once we are out of the playoff picture, and I can see Ron get cocky again.

Not even the slightest doubt.

Honestly, I think he only reluctantly let him go the first time. Heck, his issue with Gettleman's personality could have been a convenient excuse to being Hurney back.

Wouldn't surprise me if DG was fired for one reason and one reason only having nothing to do with DG: to bring Hurney back. JR might've loved DG but just wanted Hurney back more...

Hurney may become Team President or take over another position but he's probably going to hire a fresh face as the general manager.

Hurney was the only logical decision since he never moved out of the Carolinas and Gettleman's fault for never really put his fingerprints truly on the team (thank god). Keeping Ron Rivera, not really making any personnel changes in the scouting department and just this past offseason resigning some of Hurney's old draft picks.

Too many competent personnel has walked away from this team: Trent Kirchner and Dan Morgan in Seattle, Ryan Cowden in Tennessee (He's a WOFFORD garduate...and rumor has it he is in Big Cat Jerome's fraternity) and of course Brandon Beane.

I'll take him over gettleman . Hurney found some amazing talent just made mistakes with contracts . I don't care about bpa we need to draft for need if I'm  gm I'm going tackle first 3 rds and a guard In the 3rd

Hurney made more than mistakes with contracts like putting us in a cap hell hole that lasted for good while and slowly fixed that ridiculous unnecessary mistake.
