what could have been a good episode was ruined by all the pandering to shitards

i don't know what a shitard is but i might be one cause i liked the episode a lot.

they started the war off so big i'm curious to see where they go from here. if it's "negan and the priest talk quietly for 3 episodes while rick has daydreams about his future with a fake beard" i'm gonna threaten to give up on the show like i do every year

I was pleasantly surprised by this episode.  Agree about the fake beards.  But, I was glad to see Rick with his balls back.  Still, not sure what those visions are or what purpose they serve.  I figured it was what he envisioned the future to be like once they win, yet Michonne and Carl hadn't aged...  so, i'm not sure.  Also, where is Rick when he is crying and having those visions?  Initially I thought they were flashing back to Negan killing Glen and Abraham, but it wasnt that.  So, I'm guessing they're going to lose someone else he's really close to this season and they'll flash back to that scene again.  My guess is Darryl?

Being the part of the "comics are the master race" crowd, I know exactly what those "dream sequences" were. It's an interesting way to setup the story of the season for sure. Wish they would have had that limited to the start of the episode though. Having it peppered throughout may come back to bite the season. However, I'm hopeful they'll do All Out War justice. So long as they keep the pace up.

If they slow it down and stretch this part out over the course of the entire season, it'll be bad. All Out War can be properly done and complete in a half season. The back half of this season needs to be fallout and setup for season 9. But of course, this is Gimple and Co. They'll find a way to stretch this and make everyone very mad until episodes 9 and 16.

Maybe I'm dumb but why didn't they just go after Negan right then and there and kill him. Not saying it would stop the war but killing him would've been a major blow to the saviours.

This. He is standing there in the open just after snipers took out two people on the roof with expert precision. lol

that bothered me less than all of the counting and daryl shooting from a bike and omg the speeches.  i'm so sick of speeches. and like zod pointed out, the whole dialogue with negan.  they were pandering to idiots that are too stupid to figure out this stuff themselves

also this episode should have been the season ender last year

I only say i was pleasantly surprised by this episode because the whole last season was poo in comparison.  Like you said, this episode shouldve been the finale last season, so it was kind of like I was just waiting on a semi-good, plot-driven episode with some action.

Tbh, the show has went so far off the rails since Glen's faked death, that i dont think it will ever recover.  The writing, and even directing, has just seemed to become so formulaic and generic compared to the early seasons.  As many wise people who came before me have said, a great story/series/movie allows you to suspend disbelief long enough to immerse yourself into it.  And again, imo, TWD stopped doing that somewhere around season 5, as I constantly catch myself questioning their writing and poking holes through their plot devices and overly dramatic confrontations.

Like Jeremy said, Rick could've popped Negan without even talking.  Then, let's just say his army decided that was solely Rick's duty, as he promised to be the one to do it...  he could have done it without all that talking.  And if he didnt do it, how did Gabriel find himself in that RV with Negan, with a gun, and didnt so it himself for his own protection?  Oh, and did no one notice Gabriel didnt make it out?

I had the same issues with them counting, Darryl blowing stuff up while speeding miles ahead of the walkers lol.  It took me back to the finale of S7.  I still talk with my buddy that's big into TWD, about how that may have been the WORST episode to date, as it had the writers' fingerprints all over it.  Let's cleverly show Negan allowing Sasha to ride with him to Alexandria IN AN AIR TIGHT COFFIN, without searching her first, surely nothing can go wrong.  Then they break into an all-out shootout with automatic weapons and no one shoots thr f'ing tiger conveniently mauling people at key moments?  And somewhere during last season, they didnt think we'd notice that Negan went from a forward-thinking, always a step ahead, quick-witted, smart, clever, and cunning villain, to a bumbling idiot of a prop that is only there to push the storyline forward as some sort of set piece.  Which again, brings me to last night - not only did Rick not kill him when he had a chance, but what did Negan think Gregory was going to accomplish there?  Did he think that speech would work being that Gregory basically sought asylum there?

They long ago lost me on the whole "suspending disbelief" thing.  I just so happened to finally get in on GoT and binge watched it over the summer,  and suddenly afterwards, combined with the hangover of TWD S7,  I don't even look forward to TWD like I used to.

I went back and rewatched that recreated opening scene they did last night from season 1, and it just feels like an entirely different show.  They would let shots carry the moment, and weren't afraid of silence.  Now, it's like everything is filler and flash, for no good reason.

I think this episode gives me a little hope that the show won't continue to devolve completely into a "rah rah go get'em!" series that, every week, just builds and builds to some anti-climactic garbage.

If Gabriel survives this I will be surprised.

The episode was put together a little sloppy. The timeline bouncing got a little Lost feeling. My assumption is that:

1. Obviously, the speech scenes with all the leaders took place before they rolled out.

2. The future sequences are seemingly from the time jump that occurs in the comics. If these are indeed canon and not a "what if?" scenario, one could assume that Rick, Michonne, Carl, and Judith all make it out of the war unscathed (aside from Rick needing the cane.)

3. I'm confused about the grave scene. Rick is standing beside two graves. Are those Glenn's and Abraham's? Or, is this foreshadowing two future deaths?

4. Rick crying with the stained glass sign in the back - I'm assuming this is fallout from the war. I will have to go back and look at the comics again or read spoilers for clues to try and puzzle this one out. I would assume it is maybe Gabriel and/or someone else that bites it, as they were kinda building Gabriel up a bit this episode.

Only points of gripe, other than the dialogues... Nobody saw Daryl and Dwight passing their notes back and forth? Where are the Garbage Pail Kids?

it's also like they're trying way too hard to make rick and gang cool again after an entire season of everyone complaining about them being negan's little bitches

This x1000. Maggie is getting annoying to me tbqh. She's still not showing a baby, and she's just seamlessly taken over Hilltop with no real backing to it on the show. But rah rah, let's go get'em team Hilltop, fug yeah!
