Fix for radio being ahead of TV broadcast

I much prefer the sound of the radio broadcast to the TV broadcast, as the local broadcast is more oriented to what I want to know about a Panther game. Even if it is Mick Mixon. He's still not as annoying as the TV announcers and their attempt to be the entertainment when there is perfectly good unscripted entertainment occurring on the football field. If I wanted scripted "reality" entertainment I'd just watch that prime time network garbage. Screw incessant Romo/Simpson discussions or their forays for an entire quarter of football into the "story of the day". I'm not a journalist or media lover. I'm a football fan.

It's been noted on here before that the radio broadcast is 4-8 seconds ahead of the TV broadcast of Panther games. It's disconcerting to know the outcome of a play from radio sound before the ball is visually snapped on TV. This is why I usually listen to music on my headphones and pull the NFL.com's scoreboard play by play of the game up on my computer. I've tried a couple of times to find a solution to the delay and have never had any luck. At one time I had a computer that was old and slow enough that the radio was behind tv broadcast, but it would advance it fits and spurts. That computer became unusable a couple of years ago.

I found something that specifically addresses this problem here:

http://delayplay.com/

DelayPlay was a concept birthed out of frustration caused by watching sporting events on TV while listening to our favorite radio announcers call the game on the radio. The delay caused by Digital TV resulted in hearing the play seconds before seeing it unfold on TV. Knowing the result of a Field Goal attempt before the ball was even snapped was annoying at best...unacceptable to most. People tuned out and resigned themselves to listening to the TV commentators.

DelayPlay changes all of that. A user now has the option to delay the radio broadcast to more closely match the action on the field.

The number of Digital TV viewers, both Cable and Satellite, is increasing at a very rapid pace. Even local Terrestrial Broadcast stations that you used to pull in with rabbit ears are broadcasting in digital as mandated by the FCC. The number of viewers with Digital Set Top Boxes (STB) used to acquire these signals is growing even faster than expected. The process used to create Digital TV is the reason for the delay…as much as 8 seconds or more in the case of Satellite Dish viewers.

They are out of stock because of a product re-design. I know it's been discussed before on here, but does anybody out there have a source for this product or its equivalent? Has anyone out there actually used this particular product?

This could have also been posted in Nerdvana, but I figured I'd be more likely get responses here. It kinda applies to both.

I cant pause my DVR and fix it because my DVR starts out behind. I would have to be able to pause the radio.

your dvr is behind the radio? hmm.....I guess you're listening through local radio eh? I get it on the radio from sirius and they're even behind directv so it's easy for me to pause the dvr and let the radio catch up.

no prob.... I spent HOURS trying to find a program, you'd think they would be all over the place but it's rare to come by a decent program such as this.

:)Thanks!!!! I'd rep ya if it were still possible. Gonna try it on the broadcast Monday night.

Do you get sirius straight to a reciever, online or thru field pass on nfl.com? If field pass is delayed, I may just do that next year.

had the same problem..... found this a couple weeks ago and works like a charm.

What worked for me, FYI.

1. My empty nest boombox radio was 6-8 seconds ahead of TV during the game. The physical electronic box from the link (http://delayplay.com/) in my first post of this thread would work for a physical receiver, if they ever get it in stock. I like this plan and will use it if the cost of the product isn't too high. If it is, I think I'll go with Sirius next year. I think this setup is more reliable than an internet connection, which has a tendency to lag and catch up.

2. I live in SW Charlotte. I've never been able to get the Charlotte station's broadcast of the game to play on my computers. It cuts out during the pregame show. (WBT) I've registered and signed in with this site in the past and had the same thing happen. I didn't sign in this time. Maybe it's just me not holding my mouth right  , IDK.

3. http://www.freefootballradio.com/Carolina.html lists the Panthers radio stations with direct links to the broadcast (unlike the list on panthers.com which just lists the stations). I used the first one on the list (a Charleston, SC station) and it worked immediately after I lost the WBT pregame broadcast. A simple google search produced this linked list.

4. I started the daansystems program recommended by mm_buc at the same time I started the Charleston radio station stream. I left the delay on the default setting of 1 sec. The pre game broadcast on the computer lagged about 1-1.5 minutes behind the live noise from my boombox, once the game started it slowly caught up and eventually passed the TV broadcast at the beginning of the second half. I reset the program delay to 11 sec. I had to hit the stop button on both the radio streaming and the delay program, then hit the play button on both to get the longer delay to take effect. To be honest, I'm not sure if it was the delay program, or restarting the streaming that slowed the radio back behind the TV broadcast again. There was 11 sec. of silence while the delay program reloaded. I had no further troubles matching broadcasts.

5. Mission accomplished. I tried to do this again because I honestly think ESPN's MNF crew is the absolute worst broadcast in football, mostly because of Kornheiser and the puppet masters that tell the broadcasters what to do. Maybe they did a good job for us this time, IDK, I wasn't listening. I've seen too many of their MNF games go off on tangents and interviews about things I really don't care about while good football was being played on the field. Avoiding them was simple enough to accomplish while downing a six pack and screaming incoherently at the TV. It was nice to have Eugene join me in screaming on occasion. I was really down on Mick Mixon back when he first took the job, but he is a professional and has upped his game considerably. The boy needs to learn how to say pants instead of britches, though.

Thanks to Inimicus, shinner and mm_buc for the responses.

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
