Saints offensive scheme allows Kamara to shine.

For those thinking Kareem Hunt or Alvin Kamara would be able to work in CAR better than CMC are solely mistaken.

It's not always about scheme. CMC has forced 12 missed tackles in 75 touches. Kamara has forced 7 in 49. The big difference is in yards after contact. Kamara is averaging 3.5 yards after contact per touch. CMC is averaging 1.8.

Considering those statistics, CMC is slightly better in forced missed tackles with 0.16 per touch. Kamara is around 0.14 per touch.

What I do wonder is how often Kamara is stuffed behind the LoS compared to CMC. CMC barely even gets the chance to even pass the LoS with our o-line's production without Ryan Kalil. A lot harder to dodge a hoarde of big men compared to linebackers and DBs in space.

I still stand by what I saw from college. In a traditional role as a workhouse RB, Kamara would struggle considering his past vision and decision making in college. As a committee RB in a Saints offense thriving with players in space, Kamara doesn't have to work as hard, as scheme will generally decrease the RB's role in decision-making/vision and get him to make plays.

McCaffrey will admittedly not break as many tackles as most backs and does need an o-line that's capable of opening a few holes in time for him to thrive. His greatest aspect has been his running style and patience in waiting for blocks to develop, but that doesn't work with this offensive line that continually allows defenders to break through.

Preseason obviously is vanilla and is not indicative of everything, but it showed what CMC does with an o-line that can develop its blocks. He's able to utilize a Le'Veon Bell-esque type of style and hit the small crease that develops and turn it into a big positive.

So, with improved run blocking, all it'll do is show CMC isn't the man we've seen the past six games as a runner. He can be a workhouse back, but that starts with blocking up front. Jonathan Stewart forces the most missed tackles last year and continually was hit before the LoS, but even he can't get much done with the o-line production as of now.

There was someone here who swore up and down every time his name came up before the draft that he was terrible. Either a disgruntled Vols fan or a gruntled SEC fan but certainly some typical sec absurdity going on
