In Hindsight, Still Think Keeping Gano over Butker was a Huge Mistake.

Yeah sure he's been pretty good this season so far but we have a coach that won't even allow him to attempt 50+ yarders anymore.. that's embarrassing.

When you are less than 55% career from that distance  maybe there is a reason.

You guys are funny - Andy Lee is one of the worst punters in the league in net punting - he often outkicks his coverage and is not a directional punter like Palardy.  Lee's net is only 38 yards, and I think he has given up more return yardage than anyone in the league - he has given up 275 yards in returns - Palardy? 29.  But keep hating.  Guarantee you Carolina loves the fact that Palardy gives up no returns, because the punt coverage for Carolina sucks.

I love the way you miss the point or deflect everything i say. I said it may or may not have a knock on effect. Either way I am absolutely certain you don't know what they're asking or what the Panthers are offering and what the difference is. And even if it isn't the difference in re-signing them, the point is it is a cumulative effect. If you always take the overpaid veteran ahead of the rookie sooner or later down the road it pushes out a veteran who is actually more worthwhile because his contract simply comes up later.

I agree that on the face of things there is little difference between their level of play-they're both playing well. And clearly one bad moment from Butker or Gano doesn't define either. But looking at the big picture there wouldn't have been a big drop off from keeping Butker. Clearly RR doesn't like the idea of long FG attempts anyway. You can make a case for any player not getting cut but I can think of players I want to keep more than Gano.

We didn't keep either of the kickers that I wanted to keep.

But ultimately it's not my decision. You can talk about the cap affect all you want to, and you can keep crying that he's overpaid, the reality of the NFL players Market says otherwise. Whether you agree with it or not doesn't matter.

Yeah, let's keep the older and more expensive of the two.. The one that has proven to not be as clutch anymore and who the coaching staff doesn't trust to kick from 50 yards out. Good decision, hurney

All NFL kickers combined this season are 16 for 35 on FGs longer 50 yards or more..... 45% sheesh.

Gano missed one FG all season a 55 yarder.... and you clowns act like its a chip shot.

Bukner is 13-14 with his miss being a 40 yarder.....

Thank you, Shocker - now, moron - look at the box for NET PUNTING - and get back to me - also look at the box entitled RYDS (return yards) and get back to me.  You are exactly the type of dolt I am referring to - a guy who has no idea about the nuances of the punting game - pro coaches actually give a crap if the punters kick returnable balls, which Lee does more than anybody.   You simply look at the gross average and take nothing else into consideration.  Not smart, and not the way pro coaches gauge how effective their punters are.

This is my thing. It feels like the coaches don't even trust Gano to take 50+ yarders. It's almost as if they're protecting him from himself. Trying not to let him lose his confidence.

I say all this, and acknowledge coach did let him attempt one 50+ yarder that he had no business attempting. The one he should've attempted they said no.

What part of " cross wind" don't people understand? Not all 50+ yard kicks are created equal.
