ZOMG! CMC iz uh BUZT!!

I believe Shula is the worst OC in the NFL currently, and one of the worst all time. Me and a couple of buddies always predict his play calls with surprising accuracy. If I know it is coming, then why wouldn't DCs who get paid millions know? It is a situation where Shula is what is holding back this offense, and the front office is too blind with loyalty to see it. Our offense has success in spite of Shula, not because of him. Blaming CMC for Shula's inability to adjust, and to have a good game plan is stupid. Shula is here to stay though. Expect an extension for Shula at the end of this season for 5 years 20 million from Hurney. SMH. Rant over.

This place is confusing at times. Always read how Shula's run game scheme is vanilla and predictable and a high school offense is more creative/complex but also it needs to be simplified more at the same time.

That's because most of this board doesn't know what they're looking at. They only see "poo, CMC didn't get me 53 points in fantasy! He suxx0rz!"

In reality, Shula's scheme is very complex. There are a lot of moving parts. If you're aware, the more moving parts involved, the greater chance of failure. Igo is right - they need to simplify.

There are many factors at play here and he's been a positive contributor.

Its hard to ignore guys like Kamara, Cohen, Hunt, Etc. who have looked great..but they have different situations and different schemes. CMC is as solid of a player as it gets..but...we need a Stewart heir apparent and better OL play.

I'm happy we drafted him and he's no where close to his ceiling but there are certain things that have caught up with his game at the pro level. Can't ignore that.

The people trying to justify the Mccaffrey pick are the same ones who called Reggie Bush a bust in NO.

Some one on twitter broke down his Detroit tape and it wasn’t good, he missed many opportunities to make defenders miss. And his punt returning has been awful, he looks slow out there.

I am a CMC guy, but I have to say it is strange how he automatically gets the benefit of the doubt as a top 10 pick while someone like Newton still doesn't get the same even now 7 years into his career.

I think if he were missing obvious holes or JStew was doing appreciably better you would see more questioning him (other than the same old crew that hasn't wanted him from the start and were just looking for an excuse to say "I told you so").  The truth is that no RB is going to do much with the run blocking we have shown thus far this season.

Whether it's simplification, complete redesign, or whatever, something needs to change in our approach to run blocking.  It's the same reason some think JStew is done but others believe he can still be effective.  Without holes to run through, we just can't get a good sense of what he can or cannot do.

Right now the biggest questions I have heard about CMC are that he is dancing around too much or that he goes down too easily.  Well, he's not a power back, so he will not bull his way to an extra yard or two like Stewart.  Rather, he's more in the Barry Sanders mold in that he uses his quickness and vision to get his yards.  But without any holes to squeeze through (and being asked to run it right up the gut almost every time), he's not going look all that good.  It's also the same reason for what appears to be his dancing.  In reality, I don't think he's dancing with indecision or uncertainty, but trying to see if he can find even the tiniest sliver to run through.

So far, Shula has done an ok job of getting him in space as a receiver so he could make plays, but he has not done very well at finding ways to put him in position to take advantage of his ability as a runner.  If nothing else, he needs to start spreading things out so McCaffrey can start finding a little space to run through.  Adapt to what he is rather than trying to fit him into what does not fit his style.

Our offense isn't a numbers offense anyway.

People expecting CMC to come in and have these huge games are crazy. No one on our offense has huge games. Cam sometimes.

If CMC was say in the Saints offense he would be in every fantasy lineup out there. Look at Kamara. Its not like Shula is gonna start a no huddle foot on the throat offense who constantly is going up the field where we get in a ton of offensive snaps.

Plus we are the kings of the 3 and out.

There are too many factors involved to make a definitive determination on CMC right now, no argument there. We see the flashes, we see the potential. But fair or not we need to get something out of this run game or we're just going to inevitably get Cam hurt again if he's stuck having to carry the load. I don't know how many times we have to watch this same story play out before we learn.

I have serious doubts about the possibilities of winning a Super Bowl with the combo of Rivera/Shula.

Absolutely!  I get that we have execution issues on the OL, but we cannot keep focusing our run game on between the tackles.  CMC can run there, but only when the defense is spread out enough that he can find a seem.  And as powerful as Stewart is, we can't expect him to run through half of the defense every time and hope for something to happen.

What we are doing isn't working, and unless they actually make changes, it won't change.  Hopefully with the mini-bye the coaches did some self scouting and will implement some changes to get us rolling.  Otherwise, we will likely find ourselves a very frustrated fanbase come playoff time.

Hey Jer

This was brought up in another thread and I know many discount PFF (except when it fits their narrative) but if the line has been so terrible in execution and scheme, how can they be ranked the 2nd best o-line in PFF's rankings? Granted this was  before the Eagles game, but if they are indeed as terrible as everyone around here claims,  how can they be even close to the top?

https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-ranking-all-32-nfl-offensive-lines-by-average-grade-week-5

Average offensive lineman grade: 74.1

The play of the Panthers offensive line has been one of the positive surprises of the season, especially with the injury to center Ryan Kalil. Backup center Tyler Larsen has been playing well as he proved to be a force in the running game and is currently Carolina’s highest-graded run-blocker, even having played fewer games then the other offensive linemen. Free agent acquisition Matt Kalil has been playing better in recent weeks — he has not allowed a single sack or quarterback hit in the last two games after surrendering four sacks in the first three weeks. The Panthers are at their most successful when running a man-blocking scheme this season, as they average 2.42 yards before contact on these runs, third-highest in the league.

I always discount PFF. They’re universally pretty poor but absolutely clueless at OL grading. They don’t have the tools to judge OL. They are some JAGs that say “oh hey Carolina can run the ball! 2nd best OL, obs!”

    • I don't think Rodgers but probably not for the political reasons I bet a lot of posters are motivated by. I just think he is not the QB for the Panthers, at all.
    • Sun Devils just scored another TD on BYU, 14-0
    • It wasn't great but  the 2022 NYG won 9 of 16 games plus a playoff game. He had a 92.5 passer rating. 15 pass TDs 3200 yards, 7 rushing TD, 700 yards 6 fumbles 3 lost.  His first season he had 18 fumbles lost 11. Wow.  Anyhow he had problems in 2023 with injuries and didn't win poo before tearing his ACL. This year, no Barkley, not good, but you know.... these ACLs take a while and it was right and he throws right so pushes off of it.  I agree it doesn't hurt to let that guy compete cheap. You don't hand him the job like with Bryce or NYG with him.  When I look at what we have been saddled with, he doesn't look worse and has the physical advantage. So I don't get the umbrage given our situation. This "No we won't settle for anything less that the best" attitude and then taking Bryce Young was pathetic and I think that attitude brought us to where we are. That's where that poo gets you. Away from Mayfield, away from Darnold, even away from PJ - just to replace them with an inferior PJ.  At the same time I am not really advocating for the guy just looking at it objectively. It could be another guy with the same story. And yes the odds of him getting it are low but the numbers and performance from 2022 are for sure better than we see with Bryce even after a season of major propping him up with better players around him. Take a look don't take a look he fails or he doesn't fail...   to instead sit here and be happier with what we have is bullshit.
