And to add to this I would say it is easy to defend.  I've noticed that the DLine has either figured out that the just have to rush straight up field because the guy in front of him is going to pull and give him an open lane or they will put 5 OLine-men on two Dline-men and leave two free to rush.   Nevermind the blitzing because most of the time it's not needed.

I think Shula tries to get too cute with his scheme and creates more confusion than necessary.  He would rather rely on confusion/misdirection than physically imposing their will.

Not saying he's anything close to a bust, but regardless of the rest of the offensive struggles, a top 10 HB pick should show a bit more ability to create on his own. And it's reasonable to say that he hasn't lived up to the high expectations of training camp yet. He raised the bar then but hasn't shown it in games. Think it'll just take time for him to get up to speed and the rest of the offense to click. We really need to give him the workhorse between the tackles role and not Stew.

Watching that game I kept asking, "How come our linemen are five yards down field and our running backs are buried for a two yard loss?"

If I can see that from my couch, how can an OC and staff not see that from the stadium?

With the talent on this team, if they went to just the most fundamental of offensive schemes, no trickery, no pulling, nothing but the most basic passes and option plays, they'd be competitive against anyone. But noooooo... we've got to try and be all fancy. And do it when we've got a center and TE from our starters injured and on the bench.

Biggest problem of this play is Larsen.  He is supposed step flatter when blocking backside.  His first step is incorrect, and by that time he is beat. Which causes a chain reaction in the play.  I am sure, Norwell is supposed to be logging into the B-gap or kicking the 4tech on the right side.  This play could work, but it is complicated by the pinch action.  Honestly, Williams probably should have just washed the 4tech down, which would allow Norwell to log into the hole.

This clip really illustrates how much we missed Kalil.

Hi there! How are you? I am fine.

I have seen some chatter within the Kingdom of Panthers Fans that CMC is already considered a bust. Allow me to slowly unzip and proceed to urinate on that idea.

Let us take a look at a typical Mike Shula running play design against what is commonly known to be an extremely fast and talented run defense.

Notice .... your two best players on the line are taken out of the play immediately by a god awful scheme.

Andrew Norwell is asked to pull, but can't because Matt Kalil can't sufficiently block his man. You know Kalil is a horrible run blocker yet you hinge Norwell's performance on his? Are you kidding me? Don't blame Kalil, everyone knows he is bad. Do blame the guy that puts bad players in positions they should not be in and even worse, in a position that HURTS OTHER PLAYERS' PERFORMANCES.

Trai Turner's job in the play above is to block at the second fuggin level. That is right, in a game where the Panthers could not even get to the line of scrimmage, Turner is 5 yard downfield blocking. YOUR BEST OFFENSIVE LINEMAN IS TAKEN OUT OF THE PLAY BY YOUR OWN DESIGN. That is awful.

Bonus: Daryl Williams, who has been a pretty darn good run blocker this season is also at the second level. I mean, who needs him at the point of attack, amiright?

Reminder: This play was called well after the Eagles showed they would dominate the Panthers at the LOS all god damn game long.

So I have a crazy idea. Hear me out.

DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE SECOND LEVEL UNTIL YOU HAVE PROVEN YOU CAN GET PAST THE FIRST LEVEL JUST ONCE.

Simplify, Simplify, Simplify.

Let Norwell and Turner do what they were born to do, allow them to dominate at the LOS straight up. No more pulling. No more sending Turner 5 yards down field so he can watch defenders maul his running backs. For once, get mad and pretend like you are an actual running football team.

Put a helmet on a fuggin helmet and run the ball. Minimize the amount of mistakes that can (and will) be made by simplifying the blocking scheme. Even if you only manage 3 yards a play, that is a 300% improvement over what you are doing now.

I can't argue against that... that was awful.

Kinda reminds me of our defensive scheme right now with linebackers on slot receivers. Hey guys do it even though we know it doesn't make any sense what so ever. Setting our team up for failure.

This makes me nervous because we have a team that can and will most likely make a big push to the super bowl.. if these guys stay stubborn as fug the rest of the way and don't adapt they all need to be gone.

On one hand i want this team to get their shot at the chip.. on the other hand I know that means we probably keep hurney and the rest of the team in tact for next year.... ugh
