How Much Of A Difference Will Ryan Kalil Make In The Run Game? (Pretty Big)

As good as Ryan Kalil is and as much as he means to the overall chemistry of the line, I find it extremely disheartening and hard to believe that no one else on the line can do their job without him.  Our run blocking is beyond pathetic, but Ryan Kalil comes back and, magically, all of these guys just start mauling their opponent, and we run for 150 yards? If so, we have a huge problem, and we've overvalued Turner and Norwell.

Ehh not really. If we don't have Cam, we are going to be mediocre team. Doesn't mean our WRs are overly reliant on him to be good. We need the captain back on the line.

Receivers rely on the QB getting them the ball.  That's different than the offensive line whose job it is to beat the man opposite of them.

That's true. The way I see it is the O-line depends heavily on communication and teamwork in a way that other positions on offense don't. It isn't too much of a surprise that the entire performance of the line has gone down since we lost the main communicator and leader of that line. But you're right, it's sad. Our o-line has been such a weak link since Jordan Gross retired.

Agreed. And I've been undervaluing the center position this whole time.

As a sidebar, I watched a few videos on YouTube this week about play calling at the line, audibles, etc. I never realized how important the calls the center makes really are. Not only is he setting the line up, but that has to work in concert with what the quarterback sees, and calls. At least in some schemes, after calls are made at the line, the QB makes his, including the possibility of further changes at the line. Top it off with dummy calls, and things can quickly get complicated. Knowing no more than I do, but now more than I did, I'm thinking this is a major reason Kalil is missed. There's an amazing amount of stuff going on there. It's complex, and happens in seconds.
