To be fair no one thought Cam would transition to a nfl QB like the  panthers did

This is just wrong. The Bills would have drafted Cam at No. 3 in a heartbeat if given the chance.

"When we first started the draft process, we thought we'd have a good shot at Newton," Whaley told Sports Illustrated for its oral history of the 2011 draft. "[Stanford quarterback] Andrew Luck, had he come out, would have been the first pick. Denver was at No. 2, and they didn't need a QB. So we thought, 'We'll get Cam at No. 3.'"

Yeah, but i weigh Kaaya or Gilbert's ability to develop into something significant versus a 3rd QB who is active on gameday because he is also a competent gunner and coverage guy on ST and can play WR as well.

At the end of the day, it isnt going to make or break us, I just think it's been a lot of wasted movement at the bottom of the roster.

Joe Webb was easily replaced on ST. Developing a young QB2 for next year is MUCH more important than an old Joe Webb who hasn't thrown a pass in 6 years and isn't part of the future.

There's always a lot of movement at the bottom of the roster. It's just that Panthers fans feel like they need to give these insignificant moves the "OMFG" treatment every time it happens that makes it seem like a lot.

I'd say a lot of the annoyance with Kaaya revolves around Joe Webb.

If we were going to keep a third quarterback on the roster, why not just keep Webb and put Kaaya on the practice squad?

Heck, a lot of folks would have preferred to keep Webb over Derek Anderson.

I don't understand why everyone is so concerned about the backup QB anyway. If Cam goes down, we are f*cked. Neither DA or Webb or Kaaya or Gilbert are winning games as the starter. It doesn't matter. Sure Webb might have been a better choice than DA. We might lose by 20 instead of 30. What likely matters most is how much the backup QB can help Cam in practice and meetings. DA is his mentor and like a 2nd QB coach. Webb was just someone that everyone really liked. That is most likely where the DA vs Webb was decided.

As for Webb vs Kaaya, Webb has zero upward potential. He is what he is. Kaaya at least has(had) the possibility to turn into something decent. We need a new backup QB. Kaaya was a shot in the dark at that to possibly save us from needing to use a draft pick on one next year and it didn't work out.

I like Gilbert more than Igo does, but I'm not convinced anybody we have right now is gonna be QB2 material anytime soon.

Seems more likely that comes from the draft.

I don't think we do either. I don't think they think they do either - which is why they had both Kaaya and GG until yesterday. Pretty sure they want more than one option for the 2018 and beyond QB2

Yeah special teams aren't special anymore without Webb and our receiving corps is poo too.

Wow, so our scouting department and coaches decided to cut Gilbert and sign Kaaya only to reverse it now. Doesn't give me confidence in their decision making...

Actually, per Zod, the scouting department advised against signing Kaaya but Hurney overrode them.

Cutting him now is basically an admission that he should have listened to the scouting department in the first place.
