sorry, that's the wrong mindset for leaders intent on winning.

you adjust what you do based on the situation. you adapt. you find a way to make it work based on the tools you have. we had the tools necessary to get the win. they just weren't used correctly enough to finish the deal.

success doesn't come because you had the right plan and everything came together flawlessly...not in the real world. success comes when you make the most of what you have to take care of the situations and overcome the obstacles that are in front of you.

Better playcalling

 

 

The playcalling the other night at the end was a complete collapse and breakdown.  Yes some guys made some bad routes and bad throws. But it doesnt excuse the poor calls. Thats like saying Pete Carroll called up the best drawn up play in superbowl history but Wilson just made a bad throw.  NO! Just a inexcusable call.

The not having the players the execute the offense.  Thats a lame duck excuse, you are a NFL OC, you adjust to the hand that you are delt.  Not trying to force a square in a round hole.  You think every other OC in the league has the exact personnel they like, Hell No!  They adjust to what they are working with though.

Again theres a reason he didnt get 1 phone call in 2015 for a job opening after he was the OC for a historically good offense that led the league by a wide margin.

  You think a DC who has put up the most dominate Defense in a decade, that led the team to the superbowl.  With no name DBs that have been cut by other teams (remember our WRs were led by ginn and philly brown) you think that guy wouod not get 1 phone......ZERO calls for a interview for one of the multiple HC openings the next year.  Fug no... not a chance.  This just shows how respected and how everyone else vuews him in the league.

Cam has bailed him out, now thats he's not playing his best.  Shula's holes are starting to show.

 

How to help the run game? 

You have to start making some deep shots to keep teams honest.  This is where we really really miss Ginn.  I thought Shepard would be that guy considering how well he looked in camp, but i have yet to see him really go on a deep shot.  Have seen him a lot on some short cross and intermediate.  Samuel saw a few the other night but unless you really hit on one its not a threat and teams will still hammer in on our run game and shut the short routes.  Most of our deep shots have been sent to KB and Funch which doesnt make sense considering the shape of our OL, they dont have the ability to consistently hold up for that period of time for a big slow WR ti get open deep.  It also doesnt help with the poor blocking ing the backfield.  We dont have a TE2/H-back who can block worth a damn.  And a FB who is raw that we wont play.  With a stacked box its a numbers game and it doesnt help the case when the LT or C is struggling woth there matchup

The solution is a new coaching staff.

Need a new GM too of course, and one that won't be a hand puppet.

On game days I try to pretend my workout effort is related to the play of our team so I try to make sure I work out really hard on game days. While that's ludicrous it highlights that "we" have no control or ability to fix anything so....

I agree as far as the OC goes, but am actually Ok with the rest of the coaching staff staying, never liked shula and always thought he was the weakest link. 

but none of that will be Fixed this year, especially if the Team makes the playoffs, which I would say is highly likely at this point. so you might as well be complaining that water is wet right now.

No question in my opinion the run game. And I think there's a number of things that factor into it. For starters teams seem to be gameplaning to stop our run game. While this has resulted in our pass game has opening up we aren't going to have long term success playing like this.  I do think we are getting man handled at the line by some of the leagues better D lines. Also, I feel like we are slow getting plays off. We need to pick up the tempo on offense bc defenses have all day to adjust. Running plays look to take forever to develop.. almost looks like someone hit the slow motion button on us from the time cam takes the snap, turns around hands Stew the ball,  who lethargically comes out of his stance takes the handoff and makes his way to running lanes that have long since collapsed.. these are just my unprofessional arm chair qb observations. But but I feel picking up the tempo... letting cap share some snaps with stew and getting Kalil back are all ingredients to kick starting this running attack.

That right there is an eggplant worthy post, and not just in terms of football.

Having said that, fire Rivera, and Shula also should go by default.

I've never been a John Matsko fan, and Ken Dorsey doesn't have the cred to be a QB coach.

But the biggest problem really is Rivera.  He's a great defensive mind and would make a fine DC, but he's a terrible talent evaluator and frankly, he's in over his head as a head coach.  Likable and respectable as he is, he just doesn't have the right skill set.

Plus there's his inability to find good personnel in the area of offensive coaching.  Fire only Shula and Rivera will probably install someone else just like him.

Against stout run defenses use cmc and samual in the short passing game as your run game. Against mediocre to poor run defensed run the ball. There, simple as that.

Do you ever actually look at the stats to confirm your or refute your ideas? The Eagles' safeties combined for a total of 4 tackles in the entire game. Their two starting OLBs alone combined for 27. They didn't need safety help to stop the run. Their DL was simply owning our OL and those LBs were running free and clean all night long.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if we could even run the ball right now on a poor NFL run defense. We're not even coming close to consistently opening up running lanes. There's only a couple of times a game where there's a clean hole and even then it closes faster than an over the hill Stew can get there.
