article says we may have had our best draft ever

which of course is not saying much, but it paints a hopeful picture

Anybody who is a Charlotte Hornets‘ fan, or has followed the team knows their poor luck with the draft. Whether it be from missing out on Shaquille O’Neal, Dwight Howard, and Anthony Davis because the got the second overall pick instead of the first, or just drafting busts, it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing.

The Golden State Warriors drafted Draymond Green in the second round with the 35th overall pick. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonardwere each drafted 15th, outside of the lottery.

The Charlotte Hornets may have finally had one of those types of drafts.

I don’t want sound like I’m saying Malik Monk or Dwayne Bacon are going to be as good as those three guys I just mentioned because I’m not. What I am saying, is that based on what we’ve already seen in the preseason, they should feel like they hit the jackpot.

Malik Monk was already considered a steal after the draft, but Dwayne Bacon is starting to make teams regret not taking him in the first round. It’s very rare that second round picks actually manage to stay on a roster. Last season was just the first time a second-round pick won Rookie of the Year (Malcolm Brogdon). So even though we knew Bacon was a good scorer out of FSU, the odds were still against him.

He’s already removed doubts about whether he can play in the NBA. He already looks ready to help contribute some with the second team. On October 9th against the Miami Heat, Bacon had his first double-digit scoring game with 12 points. The very next game on Wednesday, he had 12 again including a 4-4 performance from beyond the arc.

If you are able to get a guy in round two that can give you meaningful minutes like Bacon looks like he can do, you’ve already had a successful draft. With the way Monk is playing as well, this may become the overall best draft in the team’s history.

Monk has proven to me he will be a NBA scorer for sure-
but will he be a Allen Iverson type? - where he gets 25 pts but takes 20 shots?
or will he be efficient and a turn-style on Defense like Harden?

I hope he gets that tenacious fire in him to take on his man but am not expecting it.. just be efficient on D and rockstar on O..

    • Fans are fed up with this organization's endless string of failures. And, while Morgan's less than a year into his current position, everything he's done is barreling down the same path shat out by his predecessor. If we're just pointing out this alarming lack of discrepancy between the performances of two GMs, it's really not hating. He's just proving to not be a good hire. And, hey, it's alright, because whoever Tepper hires next will, at best, only suck a little bit less. I don't mind people who are optimistic and hope Morgan turns out to be better than he's been thus far. That'd be great. None of us are rooting for him to fail. However, the embarrassing pattern of decisions persists. And it's not a good look.
    • You have to view everything that was done in 2024 through the ‘eliminate excuses for Bryce Young’ lens IMO. It only makes sense that way.     If you allow for that, you will see that Diontae fulfilled his purpose.
    • The Panthers' beat writer called the Johnson trade return "a warm bottle of RC Cola." If you're quick to discount every bit of news that disagrees with your view, maybe your view is the problem. Morgan deals himself a bad hand and he deserves every bit of criticism for it. Fitterer was the worst GM ever, but Morgan is a very similar brand of awful. Certainly when it comes to trades since 2021, Morgan's body of work makes him at best, only one of the worst negotiators in the history of North American professional sports. That's simply pointing out the numerous shortcomings he's put on display. If I point at a guy who shot someone and say "he murdered a guy," I'm not hating on him -- I'm pointing out what he did. If Morgan wants to not be labeled an incompetent clown who makes 31 other franchises better, simply stop being an incompetent clown who makes 31 other franchises better. Or, wait until Tepper makes him the fall guy after Evero.
