The Blame Game - Reviewing all of Jonathan Stewart's runs

So why does Matsko get a pass on them being confused? From everything I have heard, he is well respected by the players but he was fired from Baltimore wasn't he?  I have never read anyone blame him for anything but he has one job.

It's funny to read Shula is too predictable and then, run game is too complex all at the same time.

We are predictably dysfunctional...   i'm not gonna lie to you I'm new to football so I'm still learning a lot of stuff & that's why I don't talk that much now I somewhat observe what everybody else is saying. But one thing that stood out to me that night is that we kept running the ball even though it didn't work. And I just thought to myself what in the ENTIRE FU.ck

Our run blocking has been bad for years now.  Take away Cam's ability to run and we have a bottom tiered run game.  With the exception of just a couple of games, Stew has been running into stacked lines with very little room for quite a while now.  And those that are complaining about CMC's run production need to look at what he is trying to get through.  There is simply no room for a RB to run through.  Neither Stew or CMC need much room, Stew will power through anyone not squared up on him, and CMC has the ability to make himself skinny and squirm through the smallest of creases.  The problem is our OL is not creating very many creases at all right now, so both backs are continually running straight into brick walls.

No matter the reason, until we figure out how to get someone other than Cam some space to run, our offense is going to have the bad habit of stalling out when we need them the most.  Teams really don't even need to sell out to stop our run game, we don't get much push regardless of how many they put in the box.  If we really want to be a power offense, we need to coach up our OL to be more smash mouthed in the trenches and not just rely on Cam bullying his way for a few yards.

This poo is ALL on Rivera.  He is the dumbass that has kept Shula around despite the fact that he does not produce a consistant high offense.  Same for our special teams.  He ought to be churning that coordinator damn near every year till we find one who can produce results.

I am at the point where I hope we have another losing season just so there is a Possibility of ditching Rivera and Hurney.

I don't care how well designed or drawn up your plans are, if it is something your personnel can't do then it's useless.

Continuing to try to do what you just can't do do is futile.

Recognize your limitations and your strengths and tailor what you want to do around those two things. You can't look at the persistence in trying to use Stewart or those same plays and say that Shula is making the best decisions based in personnel.

It all ultimately falls on leadership. They either don't have the players prepared or they are asking the players to do something they can't do well enough. It's on their heads and they aren't owning anything, rather they throw the players under the bus. That's just bad leadership.

We've all known for a long time over these Rivera years that, on offense, Rivera/Shula insist on pounding the personnel into the system rather than adapting the system for the personnel.

I really wish there was a way to incorporate a hybrid zone blocking scheme. J Stew had his best years and max use of his abilities is in the one cut block schemes.

It must not be something we can incorporate with zone read plays. The inside zone just is not cutting it with a weak line.

What can be blamed on J Stews is his lack of focus and dropping easy catches. He killed a drive with a drop and gifted a int inside the 20. Those were inexcusable.

After reading through this thread, two things come to mind:

Y'all aren't all at each other's throats. I'm impressed. Good game, y'all.

Second, imagine how much nicer it would be to be griping about what an ugly win this was had we not turned the ball over in our red zone twice.

As for the plays in question, it looks to me like there are multiple issues. The nutshell version is that the OL can't do what they're being asked to do while they also shouldn't be asked to do what they're doing. Plus, Philly has a good defense.

It looks like we gained 3-4 yards on #8 ... it looks like Stewart was about to get stopped for loss of 3-4. Washed up guys wouldn't be able to make the 6-8 yard difference in that situation, right?

1st off, we run the ball at too high of a percentage on 1st downs.

2nd, they were obviously shooting the gaps to stop the run. Is it to difficult to call plays that fake the handoff and roll away from the pressure for an easy pass to the TE or CMC.

3rd. Find something that works, whatever it is and ride it to victory. Don't try to force your plan, that hasn't worked all game.

4th. Adapt and overcome during the game!

This..... This..... and This!!!!

    • My issue too is form Icky to Hunt you would have had young studs under contract control for the next 3 years, unreal if you have that on a NFL team.
    • I maybe huffin the hopuim too much for the defense during 2 games winning.   If DJ played like that each game(??), DBrown, Turlte, ARob(who's been like Dbrown), clowny   That's a solid front 5, or is it too much homer huffin??   Then Jewell and Shaq   Again solid, not trash or elite.   Horn(heathly) Mike Jackson. Dane Jackson, Woods, and Fuller   I swear the "solid" enough feels are here again   Of course Id love to drop a elite edge and have DJ come off the bench or another stud CB, but I swear if that group was 100% healthy I feel they'd be around 18th best. (yes still need a true NT).  Please correct me.
    • You are probably right, but as long as he goes to Dallas, and not here, it will be fun to watch.  Or better yet, New Orleans.
