Speedsters and no Ginn

Ginn is on pace for for 678 yards and 6 TDs. That's comparable to any of his seasons for the Panthers. His three years in Carolina he had 556 yards and 5 TDs, 739 yards and 10 TDs and 752 yards and 4 TDs.

Those are extremely poor stats for a starting WR in a Brees/Payton offense. And he won't keep up that pace with Snead getting back to full health and off suspension soon.

WR's don't put up big numbers in the Saints' offense.

Ginn is like a hidden stat.  It wasn't what necessarily his numbers, it what he caused other defenses to do.  You almost mandatorily had to have safety help over the top.  Thus when running to Ginn's side you didn't have that safety 7 yards from the line like we do now.   There is no one that garners that type of coverage for us now at the moment.

Yup. Fans won't admit it, but Ginn definitely helped in more ways than stats, which is the final strawman most Ginn haters cling to.

It really doesn't matter. The guys we have are fast twitch, quick guys meaning they will do well in space. Ginn is just a fast guy in a straight line or something that bends slightly. It has been obvious to me, at least subjectively (no data to corroborate my feelings), that Cam and the entire offense operates more efficiently with Ginn.

An example of evidence for my theory would be that the running game in the box has been absolutely putrid. When CMC gets outside the tackle box and toward the numbers, he has space to run. The problem is that teams have been keying on the run, bringing safeties down into the box because we are using Funchess and Benjamin on the outside. Neither of these guys demand help over the top because they aren't burners, leading to the ability for the safety to play down into the box.

I could be totally wrong on this but that's my theory. Someone like @Saca312 could do some digging and find some Gif's to either fail to disprove or completely disprove my theory (using research diction because that's what this is).

This is all that really needed to be said in this thread. We shoulda tried like hell to get Desean Jackson in free agency. There weren't any great speed WRs in the draft , Ross had pretty substantial injury concerns and Westbrook had character concerns. Hell if Moton panned out at LT, we could have been starting KB, Desean Jackson , to go along wih McCacfrey and Samuel from the slot.

Gettleman generally did pretty well for the future of the team, but one of the areas he completely whiffed on was getting Cam a young player with comparible speed to Ginn but could catch . He at least attempted it with Samuel, but it may take a while before we see if he ends up developing into a viable deep threat. Otherwise , Gettleman shoulda focused on getting two great OTs after he got Norwell and Turner, but seemed mostly content with average to below everage talent at OT that really comprimised the team in several key games against teams with good pass rushers coming off the edge.

That is why we got CMC, byrd and Samuels equal Ginn and more, but until snow brain Shula design plays that  cater to each player skill set we are doom. Olsen being hurt is a problem as well..the injury bug hurts but we still have CMC. what is Shephard doing why did we bring him in for.. Shula sucks balls and Ron caresses them.

CMC and Samuels have nothing to do with Ginn.  Neither were believed to come in here and be the vertical threat thi in a vertical pass O this year.

The point is we have no clue what Samuels offer.  GIN s speed i thought was long distance build up speed where as byrd and samuels speed was short distant quick burst out the gate...Now problem maybe getting off the line of scrimmage but we will not know until they get plays designed for them like Ginn did..there is more than one way to skin a  cat...Byrd was doing decent until he got hurt..But Shula seems determine to only use Samuels as a gadget play and he comes in sparingly letting teams know the ball is going to him... Would like to see stew samuels and CMC all in at the same time.. Shula just isnt creative enough

sure we do.  We have a good clue what CMC has to offer....hence why we drafted him and what we are trying to do with him.

Samuel wasn't a vertical threat WR in college.  He isn't going to be that guy any time soon and we didn't draft him to be one soon.  People are blaming Shula for not using Samuel in a way he wasn't drafted to be nor even was in college.

Byrd wasn't a vertical threat prior to injury.  Just being fast doesn't check off enough boxes to be that type WR.  It is definitely a box but only part of the puzzle.
