The burden on Cam Newton

lightsout

Not really. The first of said attempts he did everything he could. Somebody has to catch his passes after all. The second attempt, he made some plays but yes, had two bad passes. I think it was evident something was going on whether it’s his shoulder or his hand or what but both passes obviously slipped out of his hand weirdly. Cam did everything he could despite his teammates causing three interceptions, dropping just about half of his passes, and running into brick walls and falling down. No other MVP has had to carry a team like Cam is required to carry us. For the past five or six years Cam has been asked to pretty much be the entire offense. No other MVP has ever had to shoulder that burden.

I appreciate you backing Cam, but you could not be more wrong. Cox hit Cam's arm on that first throw, causing an INT. Then Stewy bobbled a catch, resulting in another INT. Both in the Red Zone. Both resulting in points. Neither of which could be truly attributed to Cam. But...

Then, we had not one, but two, drives to win the game. Both of those failed.

It is not Cam's fault we lost. But, he had two chances to win, with the whole nation watching. And he failed to deliver.

That said. It sucks. We are 4-2. Cam is still a viable MVP candidate. We are still a very good team. Get over it.

There are times when Cam has to take the blame. And he didn’t play a perfect game last night. But he was far and away our best offensive player last night. He was not put in a position to succeed.

See, are you blaming Cam? The coaches? Or the Oline?

Righteous or not. QBs can be rated on their ability to make come backs. Cam had two chances, and did not deliver on either.

I am going to hold Ron Rivera to these comments throughout the season, "The biggest thing, our realization is that our primary runner cannot be our quarterback,” Rivera said. “We’re going to look to do a little more backfield sets in terms of two backs and 12 personnel with the extra tight end as the lead blocker. We’ve got to get guys like Jonathan Stewart rolling. We’ve got to put it in our backs’ hands and get the ball to our playmakers.”

The Eagles won because they were a better team tonight. They were able to generate a run game and not put it all on their quarterback. They were in sync with their defensive line providing opportunities for their secondary to get interceptions. The run game is broken and we can't rely on the QB to carry the burden, Why? Because the personnel on offense is not built that way. This is suppose to be a ball control smash mouth offense with a defense that is aggressive and generates TOs. Haven't seen that at all this season.

No way Brady or Rogers lose that game if given, not one, but two chances to march down the field and win the game at the end.

Cam thru an int and an awful pass to CMC when it counted.

Now see, I feel the same way. The difference being? I was trying to be a little less harsh.

If Cam wants to be considered a viable MVP candidate. He has to win that game for us.

Bull. The iggles won, because we gave them too many short fields for points. Cox doesn't hit Cam's arm, or Stewy doesn't drop an easy one. Who knows. But those points, pretty much cost us the game.

I’m getting what you’re putting down.

IMHO it’s not a huge deal to say Cam didn’t deliver. As many have said, and I agree, he gave us the best chance to win, he worked his ass off, he did things other QB’s can’t.

But he didn’t get it done when he had the opportunity to. That doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate what he does or who he is. Like you said if you want to be HOF , that’s the time to deliver.

I think of Cam much like early Lebron. Had the gifts, drive, work ethic ... etc... but it took him a few years to get the eye of the tiger, and produce in the clutch . That’s separates the good from the great and th great from the legends, period.

I think he will get it. Its not a slight, just how I see it.

Facts are facts. Folks on the huddle can’t objectively assess Cam or our team 99% of the time. Loss isn’t solely on Cam, but elite QBs march down the field and score when it counts.

Last weekend, Rodgers lost his top receiver on the last drive and still got it done and no excuses.

I love me some Panthers. But tonight? They let Cam down. Dropped passes, poor blocking, and it being a game of inches. All added up, to that. But yeah, after everything that happened. We still had a chance to win.

Agree but it doesn’t matter. If Cam wants to be talked about in the same sentence as Brady, Rogers, Manning, etc..he has to win that game and march down the field at the end. Other than 2015, Cam has struggled with game winning drives.

As a Lions fan. I am proud of the fact that Stafford had come from behind wins in 8 games last year. And when it got late in the game lst night? I was sure Cam would do the same thing. Oops

I'm tired, and I'm going to bed. But I will say this. I quit reading the game day thread, half way through the 1st quarter.

Even as frustrated as I am with tonight's effort. I just don't want to be lumped in with those folks.

Well, to be honest. Early in his career, Cam did have bunch of last minute drives, that wound up going the other way. 4th quarter come back. Opposing teams comes back to win anyway.
