Rivera post-game presser

If you haven't seen it, go to the team site and watch that poo. First off, it's a 7 minute video. Ron doesn't come in until around the 4:15 mark. So, a 3 minute presser. He looked defeated, angry, and somewhat confused.

The basic run down of the presser was this.

"They did some good things. Credit to them. We made mistakes, they didn't. We turned the ball over and didn't take it away from them enough. If the pass to Ed isn't tipped, that's an 8 or 9 yard gain, but it was tipped. We missed an opportunity on the 4th and 1, but unfortunately we didn't have any timeouts left. We didn't kick the field goal before half because of cross wind. We gotta do a better job as coaches putting these guys in positions to win."

Basically, he said things, but really didn't say anything substantive. JUST ONCE I wish he would say "our playcalling on offense was abysmal. We failed to adjust and help the players out. We will talk about it as coaches and fix it because it is not acceptable". I WANT to believe that Ron thinks that after games like this, but something tells me that is not the case.

EDIT: Rivera also said "you can't beat good teams kicking field goals". He says this with a straight face while he NEVER gambles and tries to convert a 4th down inside of field goal range.

Well that's stupid. You can beat 'good' teams with FGs. Buffalo is a good team. Lots of games between excellent teams are low scoring. So that's nonsense. Mind you not attempting to kick at all or missing FG's while simultaneously not scoring TD's. This is a superb method for losing.

Serious question.  What does Ron bring to our team?  Sure, he is a "positive" coach who let's the players "be themselves".  But he lack of courage in decisions (when his job isn't on the line) is just infuriating.  I honestly don't know of a coach (oustide of McAdoo) who is more worthless.  It starts and ends with him.  The decision not to kick a FG at the end of the half because of a "crosswind" is just outrageous. Instead, we will throw a pass over the middle which is far more likely to be returned against us.

Might could've beaten Philly with FGs tonight too trying the long one right before half and then only being down 2 instead of 5 late in the game and maybe dialing up intelligent play calls instead of all out bombs near FG range with over 3 minutes to go on the clock.

The thing that pissed me off the most was the insistence of shula to pitch the ball to stewart and to keep handing it off to him when he clearly sucked ass.. THe motherfuger cannot adjust to save his life.

adjust to what the defense is doing and adjust to compensate for areas that you aren't doing very well.

i think he finally started changing a few things up and taking stewart out of the equation towards the end, but it was way too late and didn't adjust the play calling.

we don't have a power run game. we are power run game wannabes. quit living under that delusion.

    • For the silly people that worship her it will be that.  The Coleman 'legend' thing, they did that with another fairly average player that was here and I sort of mocked or questioned the 'legend' status. Instantly caught crap for insulting someone's favorite Panther. So okay, Kurt Coleman is a Legend.
    • You allow him to compete--you all are talking as if I am proposing making him the starter. Give him a new coach, new weapons, good OL, etc. and see what happens. You are saying, "Well Damn.  It did not work for 3 guys..."  Right now, our C is injured, we lost our top 2 WRs.  Better question:  If you need a QB, Why would you not take a chance on bringing in a QB who was a former first rounder, a good arm, intelligence, mobility, youth, etc.  and see how he does out of NY--with a better OL, better running game, better receivers.  I am not saying give him a 10-year contract, I am saying give him a chance. You act like there is no improvement on offense here--it was a 2 year process, and next year is year 2.  To me, how can you sit there with Bryce and an opportunity to sign a veteran QB on the cheap comes available and you say--"Not us. We're good.  We are waiting for Patrick Mahommes."  Jone's problem is obviously mental--and he has little support.  Why is this so frigging hard to comprehend.  It is called "bottom fishing" and it is better than sitting in the boat.
    • I think we're going to fall from behind quite early and be forced to abandon the run game.  3 rushes -2 yards 1 catch -10 yards
