That run blocking argument is only going to get you so far. There's no excuse to end up with negative yardage total on 8 carries no matter who your oline is, that's just disgusting for a NFL caliber starting running back. And he also averaged like 1 yard per carry the last game, as bad as mccaffrey's YPC has been its been higher than stewarts for the past 2 games in a row.

We're in for a long ass season if we keep running so terribly. There are no "easy" front sevens in the NFL to run against and we've failed miserably so far against the actual good ones. If teams know they can always stop the run then its going to keep making it difficult for the passing game to work as well . Just a clusterfug until we figure something out.

The excuse for ending up with negative yardage on 8 carries is the run blocking though, how do you figure it's on the running back if the running back has no room to run?

Its almost unfair to Stewart now since we did draft CMC.  Our offensive playcalling is so easy to counter when either back is in, most defenses can assumed either pass with CMC or run with Stew in.  To his credit, if you watch the game anytime he was in the backfield they were stacking the box big time.  betting on the run and most of the time guessing right.

With that being said if he wants to contribute as bad as I think he does, hes GOT to catch the ball out of the backfield.  Just a part of the game he needs to get better at...will he do that this late in his career, probably not.

Truly impressive stuff from the offensive line. JStew had 2 whole carries in which he didn't get hit behind the line of scrimmage.

8 defenders at (or beyond) the line of scrimmage. 2 completely unblocked.

Run #2. Exact same situation. 8 defenders at or beyond the line. Tyler Larsen on the ground. 2 defenders running free.

The 5 closest players to JStew are all Eagles. Stew actually had to break a tackle in order to ONLY lose 6 yards.

Kalil on the ground. No Eagles buying the fake-reverse. Zero hope.

The run game clearly wasn't working in the 1st half. So we made some adjustments and started the 3rd quarter with this beauty.

Sadly, this is the best look JStew had all night. He can actually see the line of scrimmage. 2 blockers on the ground. Matt Kalil mid-whiff and 2 linebackers running free to make the easy tackle. Panther football.

After a Manhertz whiff, JStew breaks a tackle and nets his second positive gain of the night. (3 yards)

4 Panther blockers upfield, while their running back struggles to make it to the line of scrimmage.

By no means am I a Stewart apologist, but there isn't a running back in the league who would have netted positive yard on those 8 carries. The only real takeaway on Stewart's end is that we NEED to stop using him in the passing game. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that a world class athlete constantly mishandles routine 4 yard screens.

But no one wanted to accept it. He’s a glorified fullback. We need a real RB with speed

Stew is still good running north and south with a hole.  That’s about it.

He isn’t good running tosses, stretch plays or asked to create something out of nothing.  Which is all he was asked to do last night.....and we stuck with that madness

If you try to run up the middle against a good defense, whu not use a fullback to help open up a running lane.  Are they not going to use Armah at all ?  Call a different play of use your players to put them in a better position to succeed.

See, that would require Shula to use more than his Crayola coloring book to draw up plays.... now you're just asking too much.
