Stewart was washed up a year ago

until then, we need to quit using stewart. for him to work well, we need an OLine that can block well.

the biggest mistake that we have made over the years...i mean after giving shula the OC job...was not making adjustments to what we're doing based on personnel. we don't have all the personnel needed for a power run game. we don't need to keep acting like we do.

I am. Telling you the boos were raining down on those play calls

Not that it does any good

starting the game, starting the half with runs by Stewart statistically 90% of the time is ridiculous

Didn’t he lead the league in yards after contact last year? Absolute joke of a thread using one game of bad run blocking to make a point. If he went out and ran for 100+ yards I’m sure you would have made a post about how good he still is at the age of 30.

He’s up there again this year. Best case scenario is the OL gets zero push off the snap. What usually happens is someone gets their ass beat and he is hit 4 yards deep. Everyone screams about waiting for Kalil to get back but Norwell and Turner are getting their asses whooped too. Great pass blockers but for all their “nastiness” they get Molly whopped regularly in the run game. Not too sure what the issue is. I’m sure everyone wants to blame predictable play calling but that’s BS. It happens on literally every run in every situation.

It's painfully obvious that Stew is shot. Can't remember the exact play, but there was one carry he had where he had a nice hole right in front of him and just couldn't hit it before he got wrapped up. That was right about the point in the game when CMC started to get the bulk of the snaps at RB.

Our run blocking has sucked, but honestly I think it's time to give CAP a shot at the majority of Stew's snaps. Even when there wasn't much there Stew used to be able to push the pile and make something out of nothing kind of like Blount was doing for Philly tonight. He just can't do it anymore. The guy has been a great RB for us when healthy and even showed in the past that he could be a quality receiver out of the backfield (47 catches for 413 yards in 2011) but the guy is just done. It's been a good run, but it's time for him to watch other guys from the sideline before announcing his retirement at the end of this season. He's 30. Most RBs hit that wall right about now and it looks like he's splattered himself right into that wall.

I will agree with you there, Norwell and Turner have been big disappointments this year. Turner better be glad he already has that fat contract under his belt. Unfortunately for Norwell, there probably won't be any such fat contract coming his way. At least not from the Panthers. We were supposed to have one of the best OG tandems in the NFL but they've looked pretty pedestrian. Honestly, Trai looked like trash tonight. Cox fuged him up good. Thank god Cox was on a limited snap count or Trai would've looked even worse.

Stewart still has the power but is slow off the ball. Seems too hestitate finding a hole and gets swallowed up in the backfield. I do blame the oline for not creating any running lanes, so it is not all on Stew.

I would like to see McCaffery get more carries than he does now. Not saying he is going to 4-5 yards every time but has the potential to break one. Plus he seems to find a small hole seem pretty quick and at least gets a yard or two.

Stewart either gains two or loses 4.

Where is he showing that power? You gotta hit that hole with conviction to translate that power into yards and Stew is no longer doing that. Blount did for Philly tonight what Stew used to do for us. Even plays where it looked like he was dead to rights and had nowhere to go, he'd find a way to squeeze some positive yardage out of it. It used to be unheard of for Stew to have a negative carry. The guy would at least get back to the LOS and usually find a way to make something out of nothing even on a busted play. These days, 2nd and 12 is the norm. Handoff to Stew on 1st down, he gets hit behind the line, goes down behind the line. That's not the way it used to be. he's a 30 year old RB. Everyone knows the history of RBs and what an ominous number "30" is for a RB. It's happened to Stew. Time to give CAP a shot at those snaps.

Yes the o-line is god awful. But let’s look at Stewart ypc.

2012 3.6

2013 3.8

2014 4.6

2015 4.1

2016 3.8

2017 2.9

The average good RB gets around 4.5 or more, the great ones get  5 ypc. Stewart is putting up Trent Richardson numbers since 2012, so are we gonna blame the o-line 5 years back?

Stew needs to be gone, and it really isn't an argument.

His middle school "bobble" cost us the game in many respects.

Kalil being out is an issue, but I have much more faith in CAP than J Stew.  He is a liability any way you look at it, whether it be fumbling, not catching the ball, or simply being man handled in the backfield because he is slow as hell

That run blocking argument is only going to get you so far. There's no excuse to end up with negative yardage total on 8 carries no matter who your oline is, that's just disgusting for a NFL caliber starting running back. And he also averaged like 1 yard per carry the last game, as bad as mccaffrey's YPC has been its been higher than stewarts for the past 2 games in a row.

We're in for a long ass season if we keep running so terribly. There are no "easy" front sevens in the NFL to run against and we've failed miserably so far against the actual good ones. If teams know they can always stop the run then its going to keep making it difficult for the passing game to work as well . Just a clusterfug until we figure something out.

Stewart is slow it won’t even matter. I’ve seen DT run him down

Link, or it's just another "Hot take" from a disgruntled fan.

Really makes you question if they are even watching the games, or just going online to read the stats.

In the social media era? Who knows? Folks are willing to say anything for pie. Facts, who needs facts.
