Great game for us.   I was getting a bit worried but Kyle kept throwing a gem himself and kept on.    I still question even starting Schwarber and Zobrist but whatever.   I think Jon Jay needs to play at all times, on a team with so many free swingers we need a guy that just gets on base.     Luckily, pitching was on fire.    I just hope Lester comes out like we know he can.

That was a nail biter, October baseball, can't beat it.    I would have left Q in though, I have no confidence in Strop even though stats say he's a decent reliever, he's too shaky.   And the drop by Kyle, phew, glad we picked him up.     Almora needs to be in the lineup though, we need more consistency to balance out the free swingers.

Love Almora but he can't hit rightys at this time....kid can play.

Strop can't keep the ball down and near the zone....pisses me off.

Think Schwarbs will redeem himself tomorrow

This actually isn't true anymore.   Almora hit .271 against righties this year.    He's changed his game from last year.     I think people are so enamored with his vs L (.342) they don't realize he has a very respectable .271 on the other side.    He's actually done more damage against righties, 30 RBi and 14 doubles compared to 4 doubles and 16 RBI (4 homers on both sides).     Combined with above average fielding and smart baserunning, he should be playing every day.

Taking a look at Heyward, who does have top level defense, he's hitting worse than Almora by far.    L/R is .267/.256 .   He's really not a better option than Almora, all around, in any matchup but he'll get to play.   I guess you can't pay someone that much to sit.     Almora has contributed more than Heyward in way less time.     Even has a higher slugging and on base.     Heyward is definitely superior in defense and is faster but it's not a different like Heyward vs Schwarber there.

Almora, Jay, and La Stella should be playing regularly over guys like Heyward, Schwarber, and Zobrist right now.      They are those GOOD players that aren't fantastic or bad but keep the gem moving.    At times, we have too many people swinging for the fences and those guys can make up for it.    I get Zobrist in playoffs based on what he's done though and timely hits.   It's a great roster with so many options but I think Maddon's infatuation with Schwarber's long ball is hurting us when it comes to putting people on base and defense in these close games vs a great pitching staff.     I'm not taking into account hitter vs batter history either, as I do know that comes into it as well.

I'm hoping we can load up on Roark, it's time for an offensive explosion this team is capable of.

    • Dang, we might not be able to create the same magic from last year!
    • If we were a solid winning organization most of us would have no problems with this selection. We would have had a capable starter in place to allow him to be eased into the rotation. If were told prior to the draft that he had been completely cleared health wise, we "probably" wouldn't have a ton of reservations about this selection. If we had picked this young man on Day 3 of the draft most of us would have no problems with this selection because we wouldn't have had to use draft capital to move up and get him. Unfortunately, none of the above were true 1)  We were a terrible team in 2023 and needed an immediate impact player. 2)  He was hurt near the the end of the 2023 NCAA season. We traded up to get him even though we knew he wasn't medically cleared to play in 2024. 3) When training camp started we were hearing stories that the knee wasn't ready. That alone should have raised some red flags. I personally would have red-shirted him in 2024 in order to have him ready for 2025. We had Chubba as our lead back and other guys to fill the #2 and #3 spots on the depth chart. There was no need to rush Brooks unto the field in 2024. Here's our draft history in the 2nd round between 2021 and 2024 2021 TMJ 2022 No draft choice. We picked Matt Corall in round 3 (#94) as our only Day 2 pick. 2023 Jonathan Mingo 2024 Jonathon Brooks. We have taken 4 skill players on Day 2 of the draft for the past 4 years who have contributed absolutely nothing to the offensive side of the football. 3 are no longer on the team. Two of them are no longer in the NFL. One  could possibly never start a game due to a knee injury. This type of poor drafting is why this team has been so bad for the entire decade.
    • Even limited as he was I still don't think they have replaced his production, and not just the sack stats. The games Clowney missed it was very obvious what his value still was. Risky move but whatever. They only had 32 sacks last year and if that drops then it's going to get ugly. I see the improvement in run stopping but not in pass protect in any way.
