move beyond the notion that running the football leads to championships

wrong. running the football is still critical. that doesn't mean the majority of your plays have to be running plays, but if you aren't at least capable of grinding it out on the ground, your offense becomes one dimensional and therefore easy to stop.

Actually he's saying if teams aren't at least capable of throwing the ball, the offense becomes one dimensional and easy to stop.

The reality is that defense wins championships plain and simple. Sure teams can play good offense and make it into the playoffs but if you look at the last 10 Super Bowl winners, the vast majority played good defense at least when it counted in the playoffs.

Look at us, our offense got us to the playoffs but it was Arizona's defense that beat us and got them to the Superbowl. Pittsburgh for example had a poor running game last year but won it with defense and some heroics from Roethlisburger.

Running game or passing isn't that important if you are giving up 10-14 points a game and your defense is setting up the offense and scoring points on their own. If like us it is closer to 30 and we aren't getting turnovers or good field position, you aren't going to win no matter what you do.

sad part is when you only run for 16 carries

Yeah, I dont get it. They spent good money on the O line and if you drink the koolaid, which I am, you believe we have a 'road grader' for a line, one of the best based on the personnel, talent and intelligence. Dwill is gold and JStew is a gift from Heaven. You mean we can't exploit a defense with this. When we abandon the run it tells me the coaching staff doesn't have faith in something, what could that be when your mantra is to run the fricken ball. We have some fkd up offensive plays for this group....

They're trying to prove us fans wrong that Jake still has "it" when Jake still shows over and over again that he's clearly done.

basically, for the Panthers to be able to win the superbowl, the run needs to be established early (1st quarter) every single game in order for Delhomme to be able to hit Smitty or Moose in single coverage and god forbid the defense is able to contain the run in any playoff game otherwise you're fuged.

he's not good enough to open up the running game anymore

Rofl.

And wasn't this pretty much always the case? Or did teams just suck that much, say, 20 years ago (I doubt it)? I was barely alive then, so no, I wouldn't know.

Yah know why... in the passing game, we dont run anything crossing over the middle at 7 yards or Duhlomme doesnt hit it. We always try to hit the big play!!!! Start gouging the D with smart plays...knock them off their feet, every D gives u something....take it. Offense is 10 yards. Average 3.5 yards every play...

Moose is a geezer and should be a third reciever...ala Richy Phroehl.

actually i think hes saying you cant be 1 dimensional anymore. if your have a really strong running game but no passing game at all you'll get killed.

Balanced attack leads to championships. But lately, the passing game has gotten teams there

Thats why our O is bad. We have no passing attack
