Beason's ploy better work

I actually wonder if the team wasn't "influenced" to elect Peppers as a captain or thought that with everything that went on in the off-season that it was the "right" thing to do.

I doubt the coaches/ownership would try to influence the team in this way - but I could imagine that for the team it was a "welcome back" gesture and/or a procedural thing considering Peppers is one of the most tenured guys on the roster at this point.

Having said all that, Peppers is liked and respected by his teammates and some - even if they agree with Beason - might resent the fact that he broke ranks and went public with it. It bothers guys because they think "..so what if Beason thinks I'm not trying, is he gonna call me out on the radio?"

Like I've said elsewhere, Beason is a smart guy - so I have to think he knows exactly what he's doing here... maybe he thinks going public with this is the only way to motivate Peppers?

Quite possible. I mean, other people in the NFL will see this. They see a teammate and friend of Peppers calling him out; are they going to bring him to their team? The answer is yes for many teams, but it definitely gives them some doubt.
