Beason's ploy better work

Panthers LB Jon Beason took a risk Thursday afternoon, and he can only hope it works.

During his weekly paid appearance on WFNZ's "PrimeTime with the Packman," Beason said he planned to talk to DE Julius Peppers (his fellow defensive captain) tonight over dinner.

There was discussion about how he was moved to doing so after watching Jared Allen's 4.5 sack performance Monday night, making implicit the idea that Peppers' effort doesn't match.

The problem for Beason isn't the talking. It's announcing the talking over the radio.

Peppers is either geeked up or just dumb as a rock. Yes physically he is a beast and that is what is so frustrating to everyone, he looks like he should dominate on every play. But he is a big dummy, he works hard not smart that is the difference between him and Allen. DUUUH which way did he go Gorge which way did he go?!!

Yup, it was a big risk and it had better work because a rift between two captains on an 0-3 team with a struggling defense would not be a good thing.

Don't forget that just like Beason, Peppers teammates elected him as a captain, he is liked and respected in that locker room. Beason's call out could end up dividing that locker room into a Beason camp and a Peppers camp and that would be a disaster for this team.

I don't think Beason's comments were that harsh, but I think it would have been better for Beason to "keep it in the family" and have that talk with Peppers without announcing it on the radio.

Maybe the team elected Pep to be the captain because they wanted to show support and move past what occurred this offseason. That does not mean those same players are happy with what they have seen from this captain since the games have begun. I doubt there is a "Peppers camp" in the locker room... and if there is I want the type of players on this team that are in "Beasons Camp".

Making Peppers a captain is a good addition to the "What went wrong this offseason" list.

here's one interesting thing that i thought about.

what is fox's response to beason going to be for this? did fox know in advance what beason was going to be doing on the air? does beason have room on a leash that other players/coaches don't have?

if fox clamps down on beason for this what is the response from beason and the rest of the team going to be?

at least beason is trying something. i'm still trying to wrap my brain around his talking about it before hand on the radio...not sure that is something i agree with doing.

I would bet Fox will never address it, Beason will never not respond to future questions about it, and that Beason will suddenly quit his appearances on the radio show. They will try to treat it like what he said never occured. That is one scenario I see as realistic....the only other is that the team is done and Fox is done and things get worse.
