Am I in the minority here or does Hurney pull the IR trigger way faster than Gettleman did?

Hard to say without knowing the details of the injury. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a joint decision with the coaching staff. Everyone knew he was a pretty raw prospect and he'd only played 9 snaps all season. Just give the guy a full redshirt season and try to use the roster spot on a guy who can contribute now.

Speaking of which... why is Colin Jones on the roster? Coleman gets hurt and we sign a safety out of free agency plus IR a 3rd round rookie DE so that we can elevate a PS safety to the active roster. It's obvious we don't want him seeing the field if at all possible, so why is he here?

He definitely does, but I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. We did kind of need the roster spot for a safety and with Cox on the active roster and healthy there wasn't much opportunity for Hall to play.

Colin Jones is the single greatest special teams player of all time, didn’t you know?

Some of the painful truths of our roster coming to light.  Our DEs are not spring chickens.  We need to get replacements and soon so that hurts for Hall to lose those reps this year.  Safety has been stopgapped for awhile, an investment needs to be made there soon as well.

Special teams what?

1. 95% of kickoffs result in a touchback.

2. He's never blocked a FG.

3. [I dont have stats to back this up] But there can't be many teams with a worse punt return unit than ours.

4. That just leaves punt coverage. Does he really shine enough during those 4 plays per game (minus fair-catches) to take up a roster spot?

Everyone says "special teams", but Im still not entirely sure what he does well.

    • I don't know--they represent the entire body of players and this be determined, if it got to that point, by a vote of all veterans and rookies who are part of the union.  If the elite players are getting 50% of all cap increases, the non-elite players with shorter careers might want a bigger slice of the pie and vote accordingly.  To say that the Union would not go for it is not something I agree with--it would be the union that proposes it--based on a proposal and a majority vote.  If the veteran players vote for an equal distribution framework, then all 53 on a roster benefit from a cap increase that is applicable to the entire team.  Not sure how labor laws might be impacted...
    • Carter, Graham, or Walker and I might roll the dice hoping Walker is around later.  If Hunter is there at 8, we are about to get a really nice haul for trading back.
    • Oh well. That's his fault if he wants to eat up all the cap space and have no protection as a result. A big part of why Brady has all those rings is that he generally took team friendly deals. Not that he wasn't making a mega ass ton of money, but he wasn't leaving his team cap strapped due to his contract while Peyton Manning generally tried to negotiate for every dime he could get forcing the Colts to make tough decisions.
