New starting safety this weekend?

Let's see what he's got. We've been living with a washed up, over the hill vet at one of the safety positions for the majority of the Rivera era. I'm not gonna panic just quite yet.

Should've made this move before the season imo.  Well see what he can do at this point, but he's a solid player when healthy on a decent defense.  Luke will be sure he's in position.

how is it so hard to play safety, you just make sure you keep you eye on the ball. I mean.... if Than Merrill can play safety... cant be too hard.

Strange that safety has been such a blind spot for the Panthers all these years. Just must not be a position they put much importance on. There have been solid candidates to draft in the top 3 rounds every single year.

We're a front 7 team - if your front 7 sucks it doesn't matter who's back there

Speaking of safeties, DJ Swearinger is turning himself into a player. Was tagged as only a hard hitter but has definitely expanded his game in recent years.

Hurney would draft one in the mid to late rounds every other year or so. Gettleman just seemed to write the position off completely. In 5 years, Tre Boston was the only safety he drafted and all his safety signings were castoffs no one wanted. Even Coleman who he struck gold with had basically no suitors when we signed him.

I think it's more that he has been put in a role that where his strengths are magnified and his weaknesses hidden. I still wouldn't trust a deep half of the field to him.
