Lions selling standing room tickets for first-place clash with Panthers

ALLEN PARK -- The Lions (3-1) held off the first-place Vikings in Minnesota on Sunday, while Carolina (3-1) upended New England in Foxborough. That sets up an interesting clash of division leaders on Sunday at Ford Field. And the Lions intend to pack the house.

The club announced they're selling standing room tickets for the game, which is expected to be one of the hottest in Week 5. Those tickets will cost $50 apiece and are available at the team's website.

There are also a few single-game suites available for the matchup.

The Lions haven't hosted Cam Newton since picking him off four times in a 49-35 win during his rookie year in 2011. Newton finished 22 of 38 passing for 280 yards and one touchdown that day, plus the four picks.

Detroit's defense already has already picked off seven passes this year, which is second in the league, and 11 takeaways overall. That leads the league.

It'll be an interesting clash of the league's most opportunistic defenses against one of the league's most dynamic quarterbacks. And there should be a packed house on hand to witness it, as Detroit and Carolina battle for supremacy in the NFC.

So we were able to get 300+ all in the same section because your fans are too cheap to buy them and would rather pay less to stand? Kewl!

Pass rush.  We need it badly this week.  Without pass rush we won't get turnovers.  Without turnovers I don't think the offense will be able to put up more than 20.  That being said, there is NO WAY we go 4 weeks in a row without getting a turnover (right??).  I predict we win the turnover battle 3-1, leading to a win on the scoreboard.

Panthers win 26-16

34-24 CAR

I think Stanford has a bad game and we manage to pull away in the 4th

Depends on how you define "bad". Statistically speaking, he had a pretty mediocre game against Minnesota (19/31, 209 yds, 0 TD). Quite frankly, I don't care if he ends with a passer rating of 50 as long as he doesn't turn the ball over, gets first downs when needed and the Lions end up winning. So far this year, he has only thrown 1 interception (few close calls in Minnesota though). He doesn't have the gaudy numbers, but he is doing exactly what he needs to do to keep the Lions in games. This isn't the same Stafford that people are used to. The whole gunslinger label he is stuck with just doesn't apply anymore.

This is what I wanted, Carolina was going to have to go through growing pains and getting into a rhythm. The first few games did that, and the Saints caused the pain to step up.

this game will be close but again, win or lose this is what you want early in the season so changes can happen and the team can start peaking towards the end.

how many teams have we seen in the past peak too early then fizzle out and die before playoffs?

its better to go through this and get better as it goes, challenged as it goes and peak at playoff time.

Panthers 24-17

both teams are strong right now.

i think this is probably a case of home field advantage being the deciding factor.

here's the thing, tho, cam has a way of making any stadium he goes to his home.

we win a tight one and face detroit again in the playoffs.

i admire that team and i've never met a lions fan i didn't like. if the panthers don't go all the way i'd love it to be you guys. that said stafford is due for some turnovers and our defense is due for some takeaways. it'll be a great game but i think the panthers walk away with the win

Talking about their new guys

TJ Jones and Kenny Golladay. Jones only seem to appear out of thin air when Detroit desperately needs yards. 3rd and long with 0:27 left down by 4 points? Jones shows up and just makes catches. The rest of the time, I assume he's somewhere eating nachos on the sidelines. Golladay has a ton of potential, but is a raw rookie who missed time with a hamstring injury. He  had some big catches against Arizona, but barely showed up against NY and Atlanta.

General Question - do most people really like Stafford in Detroit or are many just kind of "luke warm" when it comes to him? What was general reaction to his new contract up there?

But why? Genuinely asking. Why is any player "due" for anything.

In this specific case, is the Panther defense especially opportunistic? Are the corners or safeties considered ball hawks? Not poo-talking at all, genuinely curious. I really don't know much about the Panthers other than what it shows on box scores and stats sheets.

Lol, ok. Came for friendly conversation about the game. Gonna be rough in there, guaranteed.

Bob - Ford Field, where opposing fans can buy large blocks of 100 level tickets, can't possibly be as tough/loud as a place like Gillette where we had to pay $300+ for uppers.

People love Stafford generally, still a few doubters. But all the comebacks and the plays he's made to win games, his toughness etc. Pretty much beloved in Detroit.

I would say the majority really like Stafford. He's by far the best QB they've had in my lifetime. There will always be people who want to burn it all down and start over, but I think even the critical fans appreciate what he brings to the team. As far as his contract, is what it is. That's the going rate for a franchise QB. Next year someone else wil be highest paid, same thing year after that. Quite frankly, what are the alternatives? :)
