If anyone is really worried about signing a player in week 5 that isn't on a roster you might need to just think about that a little longer.  You really want to be picky and worried now?

No reason to be worried. No reason to be particularly excited either, though.

If he proves he was just misused or the victim of a bad system before, great. But honestly, it'd be enough for me to just see him turn into good depth.

Getting good players is like puting lipstick on a pig for the saints. You guys have had a consistently bad defense for a long time. Good players cant always cover up the retards calling and creating defensive schemes.

Just ignore him.

We really didn't have many options when it came to safety. I'm not expecting Byrd be to be The Jairus Byrd but just be a veteran that won't make the huge mistake.

But after reading your post apparently that may be asking too much

Oh. I must have just imagined the poor angles. The missed assignments. The missed tackles. The RBs making him look foolish.

Damn coaches.

He did go to the pro bowl multiple times so it's not like he was good and became bad. Bud he did change teams so maybe there's a variable somewhere that changed.

As I said, he wasn't the fastest guy before the foot, knee, and back injuries. They seemed to slow him more. Just didn't have the range to make plays.

i'm not going to say he's going to play anywhere close to all-pro levels or even be close to as good as coleman but...

Byrd didn't play poorly because he was on a bad defense. His poor play was a reason for the bad defense.

One benefit of the doubt I do think you have to give Byrd. As I recall, he was acquired about the time Rob Ryan was implementing his "unique approach".

Gotta cut him a little slack on that front.

amazing how so many keyboard coaches and GMs criticize a former pro bowler for a couple of bad seasons on one of the NFL's worst defense the past few years. 3 time Pro Bowler and 2 time second team All-Pro with the Bills. got a fat contract with the Saints, bad defense.

I aint judging book by cover, dude has talent and shown it.  maybe our organization like many others can rejuvenate a career.  We did rejuvenate two career back ups in Mitchell and Coleman recently.

Makes the job a little bit easier in the secondary when you have best front 7 in football. just saying.

I'm cool with the signing, just my two cents.
