He was good with the Bills, but injuries limited him in NO.  They really kept him from getting into his groove.  If healthy, he should be at least solid.  Nice placeholder for now, good depth once Coleman comes back.

Junior Gillete or something like that. He plays for the foreskins now.

Lots of safeties would be horrible behind that front the past few years.  Football is weird.  Success and failure is often largely dictated by other positions.  We know Byrd can be good.

The same folks were complaining when we pulled Coleman off of his couch a few years back under similar circumstances. It gave a good guy a chance to prove himself and become part of the team.

If it works again, then great. If it is just a temporary thing we're fine, too. Vets playing safety is almost always preferable. A vet motivated by an opportunity to wrestle back a career... could be quite good.

Was a no brainer.

We have teams like Detroit and Philly coming up and with our corners already being young we can't be having a young safety in Cox back there as well. 

I don't think Byrd has much left in the tank but at the very least he knows where to be and that's important for the rest of the defense.

Hopefully he's in shape and good to go this Sunday

He was horrible in coverage for the Saints. Sometimes necessity dictates measured risks. However, as has been noted by others, he could not be worse that Colin Jones. Jones may be a special special teams players; however, he simply cannot cover anyone at safety. 

I hope the risk pays off. I hope he is in shape.
