A list of current free agents out there. If Coleman is out for an extended period of time, I would expect one of the following available safeties to be signed:
1) Jairus Byrd (could we wash the stank that is a prior Saints defender off of him)

2) Aaron Williams - really liked him in Buffalo. Not sure what happened to him

3) Dwight Lowery - I don't know about you but I'd always be down to bring in a Bad Boy and Will Smith's former detective partner for a visit (ok... his name is Mike but you get the point)

4) Will Blackmon

A few more down the list but I'd be ok with any of the these 4 for stop-gap purposes.

Kenny Vaccaro is apparently available for a 6th or a 7th that can turn into a 6th. I doubt the Saints would trade in division during the season but that's out there as a possibility. He's in the last year of his deal so that's something to consider and is why he would be so cheap.

How they haven't found a backup safety better than jones after all these years baffles me.

He's one of our best special teams players. He isn't on the roster to play defense.

When he's out there then you know injuries are an issue at that position. It's like when we moved Remmers over to LT. Sure, on paper he's listed as a tackle so he should be able to play it, but it doesn't mean he's going to play it well.

I understand that but was he not the second safety on the depth chart? It's naive to think he wouldn't see the field on defense. I can't remember a single time he's actually made a play but I can name several instances of him getting burnt or blowing coverage.

3rd safety. Cox was ahead of him but he got hurt too.
