Panthers face difficult decision with Newton

Door #1: Let Newton be a weapon on the ground  and in the air. He'll be dynamic, almost unstoppable. He'll win games, divisions, maybe even a ring, but he won't be able to play much past his early 30s.

Door #2: Turn Newton into a distributor, an Andy Dalton , an Alex Smith, a (pick your favorite mid-tier QB). He'll be average. He'll win some, he'll lose some, but never be dynamic or have a deep playoff run, but he'll play into his late 30s.

He has a better chance protecting himself running vs staying in the pocket with our OTs

This is what I don't get when people bring up him running. Cam takes most of his punishment FROM THE POCKET. At least when he's running he can dish it out. Go back to all of his big hits, and it's always in the pocket. He is actually SAFER when running instead of solely staying in the pocket tbh

Thankfully live is not simply black and white choices.  In this case, let Cam make the decisions about his body.  If he feels up to running through guys, he knows what he needs to do for the team.  He wants to win championships.  He knows he's at his best when he can use his legs and body at important moments.  He may not play until he's 40, but that's OK.  He just has to play well.

I think we should use a player they way his skill set dictates.

Its upon that player and the cunning of the staff to keep his body ready.

You don't govern the performance of a Ferrari, why would you hold back a weapon like Cam?

He's gonna give me everything he's got for as long as he can.  I trust his decision, now let's go make history.

We all know Cam plays better after he's had a run or two. That's Cam, the Cam we love. Don't know if it's the adrenaline rush or what but that is who he is. He doesn't get "in the game" until he's had a run. Limit it, yes. He shouldn't be our #1 RB. But do not stop him from doing what he loves, what makes him the QB & winner he is. Let Cam be Cam, door #3.
