    • Nah man, it is a dumpster fire.
    • Well, there is that one guy.
    • I do see some things to be excited about. Just not enough of them.
    • C'mon Man. There is plenty of talent up in here.

With a position so important you do what you have to do to try and protect your franchise QB.

It is inexcusable to start a season where your starting tackles are an undrafted free agent and a defensive tackle.

C'mon man. There are teams that are in that exact same type hole. Hell, the Lions are using two scrape heap Tackles right now. It happens. It is not "Inexcusable". It is unfortunate.

same goes for those who don't have a lot of confidence at the moment. immediately branded bad or negative fans. bad fans are the ones who bounce from team to team. the ones that hang in there despite their lack of faith in the team's ability to go out and win every week...i think that's pretty solid. take the browns and the bills, for example. you can't honestly say that their fans are overflowing with optimism. they understand the reality of the situation their teams are in, but love their team anyway. would a fan of their team who set the bar for success at just having a winning season be any less of a fan who expected a superbowl?

most of the fans posting in here (even the negative ones) have been here since before rivera and cam came on the scene. they/we endured the last few years of fox and probably were fans predating seifert. if you've had the fortitude to endure all the ups and downs of this team, i think that you shouldn't have the term "bad fan" thrust on you.

I have been a Lions fan for 50+ years. In all that time we have 1 playoff win in 9 appearances. Yet every year it's "Hey, so and so looks good, maybe this will be our year". Even with Hipple, Donaldson, Peete, Batch, and Chuck fuging Long.

Of course, in most years, by mid season...

Hellz bellz. Barry Sander played in 4 Playoff games. And never experienced a win. All that said. Enthusiasm in Detroit is at a fever pitch. And they are 2-1 as well.

Yet around here? Not so much.

The lions are a terrible comparison. They lost Riley Rieff who was a first round pick and replaced him with one of the top FA tackles this offseason Ricky Wagner. Taylor Decker, their starting left tackle who also happens to be a first round pick, is injured. What did they do? They traded for another first round tackle Greg Robinson to help out until Decker is healthy.(although he is no better than Matt Kalil who we signed for 55 million, Robinson is 4 years younger and isn't being asked to start the entire season)

I wish the Panthers cared this much.

Edit: I read your other post about being a lions fan and I am speaking on team success, just the emphasis teams put on certain positions.

that's the danger of high expectations. i think many of us expected more. the killer, tho, is this past weekend. i think it took the wind out of a lot of sails.

I certainly expected more. Here's why I'm down:

Gettleman being fired right before the season. And then hurney coming back. And then all the injuries and inept offense so far.

Heaven forbid if we all don't exude unbridled optimism. I still want the team to fugin win though

yeah, gettleman getting fired...especially so abruptly...kind of set things in a funky place and then bringing back hurney i think didn't do much to help.

but at least we had the promise of an evolved offense with new toys. welp.

i think we all want this team to win. anyone who doesn't understand the lack of optimism held by a good few of us or is willing to overlook it, requiring everyone who calls themselves a good fan to look at the picture and choose to believe that everything is hunky dory....meh. i don't believe in forcing beliefs or perspectives on anyone, nor do i believe in trashing anyone who doesn't share the same sentiments. that's not just in regards to team, btw.

If you are trying to use a team I follow, to say they tried to fix their line. I salute you. But you would be wrong. Robinson is not working out. Koukjani (Or whatever his name was) never saw the field. But we lost 2 starters to FA, and 1 to injury.

And how did they address that? By bringing in Robinson, and Koukjani. 2 early round busts. Yeah, they should be held up as an example on how to fix the Oline.

The Lions went from having a pretty dang good Oline. To this. Now when Decker comes back we can talk. But right now, that line is no where near what it was last year. Hellz, right now? I would take our line over theirs.

Oher was decent, not a miserable failure.  Can't really help the concussion issue.

can't call it a success, either.

btw, i know about the concussion thing. i'm actually just getting over one myself. it really takes a toll on you in very frustrating ways.

we basically just haven't done well in getting gross replaced. it's frustrating.

Talent isn't the problem.  We've got that.  Granted, some of it is old and/or injured, but we have it.

Coaching is a major issue.  We're not entirely devoid of good coaches, but the head coach and the offensive coordinator at the very least need to be replaced.  Until they are, we're just running on a hamster wheel.

Biggest worry? The front office. If we're stuck with Hurney beyond this season, I can pretty guarantee you ain't even seen pessimism yet.

He's spot on. Anyone with half a brain knows that we will never win with Hurney, Rivera and Shula. The only one of the three that any other team would hire would be Rivera and that is as a coordinator or position coach. Not a HC
