To be honest though, if Fox gets fired, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if the new coach decided to trade Smitty for draft picks. It would send the message that nobodys job is safe, and it's about the only way he could get back into the first round of the draft. I would do it.

All players are tradable for the right price and most are tradable given the situation. And that is what is tradable and not, the situation. Right now a all-pro/pro-bowl MLB still in his rookie contract is not trabable. Wait until his last year in his contract and then he becomes very tradable.

Smith is a great player whose has the respect of both his team mates and the organization. But that doesn't mean that he should come above the needs of the team. If the right price comes around within the right situation, you trade him. That really goes for any player on any team.
