If you only send the guy out there twice, is it really a competition or are you just setting up to justify a decision you've already made?

Gano was a known commodity. If they really wanted a proper tryout, why not just send Butker out for every attempt?

Sure that's fair. But I think it had a lot more to do with the terrible practice performances by Butker than Gano being a known commodity. But definitely some of both...

It hasn't been all bad. I admit that it's getting to a point where new people and fresh ideas may be what the doctor must  order, but it hasn't been all bad.

It's never all bad. Heck, even Matt Millen made some good moves.

The question isn't how it looks in a vacuum. The question is how it stacks up against other teams' leaders.

Right now, I'd say we've been weighed, measured and found wanting.

I can get that, but still believe it would have been wiser to put him to true test.

Heck, Jake Delhomme rarely looked good in practice.

Matt Millen never even smelled a Superb Owl! Many teams' leaders can't or haven't made that happen. Even outside a vacuum, our leadership hasn't been chopped liver.

This is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately type of league. If Rivera and his cohorts can't get this thing figured out, then they'll be gone for what they did or didn't do this season, as well as the last.

Man, I'm glad we made the right choice at kicker.  I mean, it's nice to know we pay a guy top 10 position money so we can punt from the opponents 35.

This, and good to know that Gano can securely go back to sucking again knowing he doesn't have someone standing over his shoulder ready to take his job.  Smh...

Rivera doesn't have enough confidence in Gano to kick a field goal from a range that any NFL caliber kicker should be able to routinely make?  Looks like yet another year where Gano will cost this team two or three games.

Selecting an NFL kicker shouldn't be an afterthought, it's actually kinda of a big deal.

Panthers, thy name is mediocrity... once more.
