Cam Newton INT number 3 ( or Russell Shepard has disappeared part 2 )

There is absolutely no sugar coating Cam's struggles. No excuses at all. He has become just as big of a problem for our O as Shula, the OL or WRs. Maybe even bigger. You can partly blame coaching and injury but he just has not developed like a QB in his 7th year should and it's ultimately on him.

It was rough to watch yesterday, no doubt about it.

But I think looking at this from only one angle isn't all that helpful.

It was obvious at least to me that we were trying pretty hard to get Funchess involved. Even in situations where his skill set was not well suited for that particular route.

What we are witnessing is a combination of Cam's struggles and poor play design/use of personnel. The cherry on top is our OL flips between being turnstiles and actually looking halfway competent several times throughout drives.

At this stage in his career this type of play is heartbreaking. You can watch Brees quickly go throw his entire progression, and then in the same game watch Cam lock in on one player who isn't open and throw it anyway without even going to the next read, let alone go through the entire progression. This has been a red flag, but this team has so many problems that it's a lost cause.
