Some Optimism - Only Two Teams Are Perfect Right Now

So, we're not the only team that legit look like a dumpster fire.

To put everything in perspective, many "unstoppable" teams were given a huge challenge today in plenty of upsets. Only two teams currently are perfect:

  • Falcons - Should be 1-2 if it weren't for lucky, lucky breaks. Lions should've slammed in that throw from the 2 yard line, and the Bears dropped nearly every pass to the endzone when they were throwing to the endzone. Their offense only looked good against a terrible Packers defense. Otherwise, both sides of the ball were making mistakes and not looking as good on the other games.
  • Chiefs - Okay these guys are legit.

And now for the rest of the league:

  • Tampa got demolished by the Vikings offensively and defensively. Jameis Winston threw a good amount of picks, and were dominated nearly all game.
  • The Texans almost upset the Patriots, exposing their terrible defense. Unlike NO, the Patriots weakness is the front seven rather than secondary. That should help our offense out, though I said the same thing this weekend.
  • Bears upset the Steelers, throwing only one pass the whole game.
  • Redskins smothering the Raiders offensively and defensively.
  • The Broncos were upset by a Bills team the Panthers just shut out last week.
  • Jets just upset the Dolphins. The worst team on paper got an actual dub and 20 points.
  • The Rams are good.
  • The Seahawks suck.
  • The Giants suck.
  • The Cowboys suck.
  • The Chargers suck.

So, we're 2-1. It's not the end of the world. We still have a chance against a bad defense next week too. Think of it as "Saints round 2."

Hopefully, changes are made and the Panthers take their wake-up call seriously. We have a chance. That defensive performance is an anomaly, and this time running the ball against the Patriots front seven will actually work!

Just some optimism to clear out some of the pessimism plaguing this board right now.

Yep. That's also true.

That's actually not true seeing that we settled for 3 multiple times, at least three times inches away from getting 7 (to Benjamin, Shepard (great plays by Poyer), and a bad miss by Cam to CMC).  We didn't play as bad as people think vs Buffalo, especially in the first half, there were just relatively few possessions in that game as a whole (and McD does know us very well after all).

I just honestly think people's give a damn meter is on empty based on our insane mismanagement of Cam, insane officiating, and now politics/PC/disrespect to what many hold very sacred entering the fray.

While I will give you the Bears game, the Falcons totally dominated the Lions today and it wouldn't have been close without WR-aided (and tipped) picks. Both wins were also on the road.

I'm on board with the thesis that outside of the Chiefs, no team has really separated from the pack, however.

Normally 2-1 would be considered a good start.

I think it's different this year. Cam has played below his capabilities for the last year, no matter what underlying factors have led to his struggles. And for the D to show weakness today as well, there is little reason to feel comfortable with our winning record through week 3.

To be fair, I didn’t watch the whole Falcons game. I just went off seeing Matt ryan’s interceptions, a few comments from other analysts, and seeing the final few drives from the Lions. I’ll rewatch it so I can reassess that.

But yes, I’d say no one’s separated themselves as clear contenders aside the Chiefs so far.

If you learned anything from today , it's that high tier QBs always eat our defenses alive and we still can't do jack on offense . The Patriots are much better than the Saints and it's an away game. Should be a blowout unless we find can find a way to score multiple Touchdowns

Their defense was worse than the Saints according to DVOA going into this weekend. Their offense will be the big issue.

No we shouldn't. If you are going to say the Bills should have won, that ignores the fact that Cam missed a wide open 5 yard pass to McCaffery. We should have been up enough that the last drive by Buffalo should have been meaningless.

We should be 2-1 and are 2-1. It's not a happy 2-1, but Buffalo didn't outplay us in any way.

100% true.

But as I posted in another thread, RR not going for it on 4th down from the goal line last week and instead opting for 3 to go up 6...is EXACTLY how we lost to Buffalo 4 years ago.  I.e. nothing's changed, unfortunately.

Lol you guys just won't give the falcons any credit. Our offense looked like garbage with all the wr dropped picks. Our defense should have iced the game if not for a bogus call. However we are better than your panthers.

I give you credit. You guys made decisions with your coaching staff and its paying off. Its very frustrating to watch us struggle yet keep the same staff out there.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
