Rivera’s poor track record dealing with distractions

I was worried the Panthers would have an all around poor effort today if the past was any indication, and that’s exactly what happened.

For whatever reason, Ron Rivera teams have had terrible performances on the heels of a distracting week. I can think of several offhand:

The week Greg Hardy/Ray Rice instances blew up.

Last year the Charlotte protest/riot.

Super Bowl week.

Today with the kneeling issue, which rivera addressed with the team Saturday night.

I’m sure there are other examples where Rivera was forced to address non-football matters and for whatever reason the team laid an egg the following game.  Can you think of any others?

J-NO/OBJ & the bat.... in 2015 prior to our loss to Atlanta.  A bit more football-related than your other examples, but yeah, Rivera and distractions are not a good combo

Valid points, but honestly there are a million things going on every week. Injuries, family issues, disagreements, discontent, etc. We never see the stuff behind the scenes because it doesn't make the news.

Bottom line: If you need ideal conditions to be an effective coach, you're probably not a very good coach.

Didn't we have to go into Kansas City after one of their players committed suicide a day or two before the game?  Was that when they had Brady Quinn at QB and we still got rolled?

Hate to correct you but I think the guy committed suicide at the KC facility.  You make it sound like it was detached.

(Sarcasm)
