What CMC can't do (Get a 1st down on 3rd and 1)

CMC won't get you a hard earned run on 3rd and 1 D will smack him behind line every time

What I've learned so far watching him.

In the game last week towards the end of the game, 4th Q, we handed the ball to him twice on 1st and 2nd down and he did nothing. On 3rd down he runs a nice route and catches the pass for a 1st down .. but as far as running when the opponent knows were running, CMC won't do anything. Only backs like Stewart, and Artis-Payne can do stuff like that. So if we ever need short yardage on the ground, running CMC up in there is a waste. He isn't a true between the tackles runner no matter how much any of you want to believe it. Shula needs to run him up there enough just to keep it on tape though.

Lol. I stopped reading here. If course he isnt going to get a first down if the defense is smacking him behind the line! That sounds more like an OLine problem and less of a CMC problem.

It's more of a stacked box, we need to use Samuel & Byrd to stretch the field out.

Man, if only there was some way to root for the players you like instead of the team!

CMC is not going to be an effective, bruising RB like Stewart.  We know this.  He's a Swiss army knife.  He's not a hammer.  He CAN run between the tackles with some effectiveness, but he's not the guy who will power his way over dudes on 3rd and 1.  This is like complaining your convertible sucks when you try to put a luggage rack on it.

The other issue is that CMC & J-Stew needs to be on the field at the same time instead of subs which gives away the play call to defense.

If you have both, Cam can simply motion or audible from run or pass depending on Defenses coverage. Keep them guessing and skills players will have explosive plays.

    • Bryce put it in a spot only his guy could get it only for David Moore to drop it. T_T Tremble and Horn both struggled yesterday and that killed me since they're two of my favourite players. Tommy knows he has to come down with this one. Folks were understandably saying that JT would've caught that had he not gotten hurt a few plays earlier. The more I look at this play, the more I think that Bryce made the right decision throwing it out the back of the endzone. He could have tried to laser it in to Thielen, but that safety is lurking awfully close inside. Insuring the field goal here after a 44sec drive to end the half was the right move.
    • Except Bryce was the main reason we were in it
    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
