The Score (LOL): 5 teams that are likely already regretting their big-name FA signing

top dawg

It's unfair to judge him at this point because of the amount of time he's spent off the field with injuries and his limited time in our system.  The entire offense looks out of sync right now so I will give it time to see if he shows progress.  Right now he looks overwhelmed.

whats his contract details on cutting his a$$?  I was hopeful and hanging on as much as i can but so far this has looked like an epic fail signing.

Read my previous post on the cost of cutting him.

Personally, I think that he plays out this, and possibly next season, then is released if we find another T.

I've said something along these lines before but I'll say it again in case anyone missed it. RR will put out propaganda to protect players, coaches, the FO, or anyone associated with the Panthers organization.

How do you spot propaganda, assuming you know the definition of the word, is to know all the facts first, and then look at what facts are presented, in this case by RR. We know that Matt played poorly. RR selected a small detail that may have had some small influence on Matt's play, and blew that detail out of proportion to protect Matt from negative press and fan uproar. That's called propaganda. When you are a professional dealing with the media you use propaganda for your benefit and or the benefit of your organization. Now a fuging dope might come out and say "YEAH Matt played like POOP!" Smart people use propaganda. Hell look at Fox news, it's propaganda and tits/legs.

You can't blame Gettlemen for signing a shitty OT to a big contract? That's pretty crazy. Not to mention Gettlemens inability to bring quality offensive players via the draft. Want to see our future...take a look at our last 5 drafts. Not looking so hot is it.

So much ignorance in your post.

You are ignoring the fact that there was no OT available in the draft during Gettleman's tenure, that was worth drafting.

You also are ignoring the fact that Kalil got market value. Whether you agree with it, or not, doesn't matter.

You're ignoring the fact that he's sucked since he's been in the league. Because OTs make a lot of money doesn't mean you throw crazy money at a shitty one.

Also, LOL...no good OTs in the draft for the last 5 years! sure ok.

Morgan Moses is a solid right tackle.

He had a stellar first year.

Dealt with injuries.

Whether you care to admit it or not, of all the free agent left tackles available, he has the highest ceiling.

Gettleman also doesn't throw around money.  Minnesota attempted to retain him.  So it's not throwing crazy money. That shows me you simply don't understand free agency in the NFL.

Nice response to the draft.  I knoe you can't back it up, so just stop there.

The Matt Kalil contract is actually quite good.  People are showing their ignorance.

2017 cap hit = $3.6m  (that is currently 24th in the league for LTs)

2018 cap hit = $6.7m (that is currently 19th in the league for LTs)

2019 cap hit = $12.7m (7th).  At this point he'll either be great and worth the money, he'll be pretty good and we'll extend him - reducing the cap hit by $1-2m, or we cut him and absorb a dead cap hit of $7.2m.

This really could be a sweet deal for us.  2 games in is way too early to tell if he is worth it, but he's not exactly "highly paid".

I don't think its crazy money.  A little high perhaps, but not crazy.  He is paid around  the middle of the scale for a left tackle.  And if he turns out to not be worth it, we can cut him and the cap hit will not be as bad as it is for the upper half of OLT's in the league.  It was a risk when we signed him.  He was decent in his first two years, not so much in the later years, in part due to injury.  Maybe it will turn out ok, maybe not.  To soon to say that this point.
