oh look Ed Dickson did something really good in pass pro

Solid. Ed does a lot of subtle things really well that go unnoticed because he isn't 88 and he isn't flashy. He's the John Deere of the offense. Steady and reliable and expected to perform at any given moment. He doesn't do anything in particular at an elite level, but he is pretty good at everything expected of an NFL tight end.

He takes way to much shet on here.

Most of it has been well deserved but he had legit been very good this year. Maybe it's the contract year but I've been amazed by him in all facets. Run blocking, pass blocking and as a receiver.

Dickson. Not Olsen. A good TE, but not an elite TE. Nobody will replace Olsen, but maybe no one will replace Dickson, either.

Do away with it. Bring up Armah, use Dickson as a TE. Stop depending on our TE as a #1 WR.

We have a Top 5 Defense, and a (potential) grind it out offense - run, short pass, run.

Nice analogy!

Yeah, Ed won't win any speed records.  Isn't flashy, but he's pretty solid.  I won't forget that incredible TD vs. the Falcons anytime soon.  Olsen had to miss a few snaps and Ed stepped up and caught an incredible bullet from Cam (the one that seemed to bend around the defender's head...)  It was an INCREDIBLE throw from Cam, but the CATCH by Ed was lights out too!

I think Ed will *help* fill the huge hole that Greg's absence creates, but he can't do it alone, and of course moving Ed more into Greg's role as TE#1 creates it's own hole at TE#2.  Not confident that Manhertz is seasoned enough to step up, but we'll see.   It will demand creativity from our coaches, that's for sure.

Yes, he has been surprisingly good the past two weeks.  (Or at least more NOTICEABLY good, not just playing in the background, but good enough that I've done a double-take a few times, and gone, "wow, that was Dickson!")

Even one of our coaches was quoted yesterday as saying Dickson is playing the best he's ever played for the Panthers, so they've noticed the improvement too...

Ed Dickson has done a lot of good things but most fans just want to bash him replace him with a guy who's name they know from the draft. It ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

There's a lot of truth to this, but I would qualify it slightly.

Don't mistake all the eager desire by many in the fanbase to draft a TE (Hunter Henry / OJ Howard) the past two years as all based on criticism of Ed.  Sure, some of it is that.  But there's also the sense of wanting to be grooming a guy behind Olsen, giving a rookie a chance to play alongside and learn from one of the best in the game.... kind of like we're doing with TD & Shaq...

Greg is a player who would obviously be incredible as a mentor.  Want to give him a chance to shape a promising young guy into an elite TE for the future.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
