Snapping the ball with one second left....

Yeah I think Shula should listen to the fans more LOL.  I think we should snap the ball with 15 secs on the play clock like Atlanta did in the SB Worked out great for them.

Obviously you're right about whether fan opinions matter to a coordinator or coach, but as to the overall play clock issue, there are totally different facts and circumstances between that specific situation in the Super Bowl and what is still going on here...repeatedly.

Y'all do know that Cam was having problems with the communications in his helmet for just about all of the first half, right?

True, but the assertion that calls are coming in slow (or perhaps wrong), and as a result, the tempo is thrown off, is still a valid point. Yesterday wasn't the first time, and unfortunately, I fear it won't be the last one either.

I could see if it was a one time thing, then MAYBE we could blame Cam's helmet. But this has been an ongoing thing for 4 years now. Shula is too busy watching Cam bail his ass out instead of worrying about the situation and calling his next play. Good OCs get a feel for a game and can just flow playcalls out depending on the situation. Shula seems like he has no idea what down it majority of the time. I'm just so fuggin tired of seeing a once in a lifetime athlete like Cam being wasted by the likes of JR, Rivera, and Shula.

I say again, if you don't watch other NFL games, take the time to watch a good offense next week and how they operate. They are quick out of the huddle and at the line of scrimmage with around 18 seconds. This gives the QB time to set protections, analyze the defense, and make the appropriate audibles/checks at the line. Cam, he doesn't even have time to call the cadence, let alone do any of that stuff.

When Gannon was talking about the play clock being in the second level yesterday I asked myself why the team doesn't invest in a single large mobile play flock you can roll from end zone to end zone depending on which way the offense is going.... And not use when our defense is on the field.

Then again there is a lot of things I'd do differently at BoA.

Why does the PA guy wait until the official announces that its a 1st down to announce to the crowd that "THATS ANOTHER CAROLINA PANTHERRRR... 1ST DOWN!"

say it as soon as it looks like a first down, get the crowd fired up, and prey on the official's natural tendency to give into societal pressure/not rock the boat while he's spotting the ball.

There's no way the play clock thing would fly with the NFL, but that's a creative idea.

As for the PA guy thing, the first time he announces it to the crowd and it ends up not being a first down, then that would be the end of that.  There's a reason they wait for the official announcement first.

I place some of the blame for unnecessary time outs or delay of game penalties on Cam. He has no sense of urgency in getting out of the huddle quickly.

There is truth to this.  I hold Shula responsible for the offense, but I don't see Cam hustling the guys to the line until there are 3 seconds on the play clock and we burn a TO.

OK but how do you know if it's that, or if Cam is the one who is slow right now?

shula wants to hold the ball and drain clock

I can understand draining the clock at the end of the game, but this is happening in the first quarter. Not sure if it is Shula taking time to get the play call in or the guys are just chatting isn't the huddle. My guess is Shula. Just terrible and cam has. O time to adjust. Sheesh!!!

I don't with any certainty except that there's a clear pattern supported by at least one other vivid memory of an instance being televised, and it was not a headset problem. As I recall, twice in that game, Cam called timeouts as the clock ran down fuming at RR about what appeared to be this very issue. It can't be denied that something, or someone, is periodically disrupting the flow of the game. I think Cam has his weaker points, but the desire and his efficiency running a no huddle or otherwise fast paced offense doesn't seem to be one...as long as you don't consider what happens AFTER the snap.

I don't remember it happening when Chud was OC.

I seriously doubt Cam has as many plays to worry about then either. He's a 7 year vet now though and this is HIS offense, whether some of you want to admit it or not. Of course, this could also be coming from RR himself but there are times when Cam needs to take control and show a sense of urgency. He is the field General and only he can get them lined up quickly.

It would mean nothing and nobody would care.

You'd get a generic comment from the color guy once a season about "ha the fans for excited there, they thought he got past the sticks." once a season and that would be the extent of it.

Teams around the league do similar things and more to amp up joke field advantage. The panthers are more confident rned with "protecting the shield."

The delay between the actual play and the time in which the PA guy actually announces it as a 1st down is embarrassing. Its got to be half a minute later.
