Shutting down the new Panthers "evolved" offense in two easy steps!

This offense desperately needs Cam's legs and his running ability. Cam is an above average quarterback without his run game, but when he's running free he takes this offense to a different level. He becomes a special player when he's rushing. It's one of team's best weapons and we aren't using it enough.

Answer one question. Do you think the call was drawn up that way or not?

Why does it keep happening? Why did Williams have holding penalties several times? Why did we give up 6 sacks? And it happens every game. Maybe we should fire Wilks too. Maybe the whole staff.  After all they keep having player execution problems.

I have no idea why it is happening.  I have a hard time believing it's by design so it is either the receiver's are struggling to understand the play call more the normal and our coaches can't seem to get them up to speed, or the communication between Cam and the receiver's on the play are off or it is getting relayed incorrectly to Cam or it could be just a shitty design.  Who the fug knows but it is one of the things that shouldn't be happening as often as it does.

The point I'm trying to make is that the offense is Shula's responsibility and he has not done much of anything with it, 2015 not withstanding.  He was touted as a QB guru but I have yet to see any improvement in Cams mechanics or footwork and it's been 7 fricken years and nothing has changed.

I'm sorry, I'm not buying the occasional Shula hype from broadcasters either.

Then you would be totally wrong. We had arguably the worse receiving corps in the NFL and a middling line at best. Our running game was complex and sophisticated but gimmicky by design. We lost in the Superbowl to a team that excelled in the areas we struggled with. It was a matchup nightmare for how our team was built. Add the fix for Manning to go out a winner and it was the perfect storm.

Love the arrogance, carry on.

Shula doesn't talk directly to Cam with the playcalling. You guys know that, right? Shula tells Dorsey who tells Cam. How do I know this? Dorsey himself said so in a piece done for panthers.com this past summer. And they showed him doing it in the SF game. Maybe this needs to change?

I can tell you that everyone in the stadium yesterday knew Cam's helmet speaker wasn't working right.

Jeez, this team isn't built around the offense. Even with Foxy. Rivera amped up the emphasis on D so the Panthers are in a bit of a fix with Olsen sidelined if they don't improvise.  CMC isn't an every down runner, J Stew is getting old...now what?  If they don't go an New England style attack (dink and dunk) its gonna get ugly quick.  No matter how a good a QB and receiver corps, you're gonna get sacked or picked off trying to force the ball 10+ yards up the field on a consistent basis.  Cam is very accurate on short to medium crossing routes but has always struggled with touch passes.  It's up to Shula to make Cam great, not Cam because he ain't gonna hit those receivers on a consistent basis. It's like groundhog day, you already know where he struggles yet, let's do it again.

I think the plays worked well for most of the day since they honed-in on the middle of the field.  They knew Cam would get sacked a few times because of this strategy.  However, the inability to effectively run the ball put additional strain on the passing game, especially in the red zone.  Cam doesn't get paid 20+ million dollars year not to have a creative enough OC or big time back that can punch it in from the 1 yard line.  He also doesn't get paid to miss a wide open receiver on 3rd down but realistically, that play should have only happened in a parallel universe.

I think they have a much better week, even Cam and not just because it's Saints.  The problem is still the running game....no running game, no Olsen, Shula is deer headlights (no a knock on him), that's his game plan.   The Saints will score, a lot, our D is very vulnerable in my opinion...Cam an company will need 25+ to win this one.

San Fran held Seattle to 12 pts on the road and Buffalo held us to nine after giving up 12 to the Jets.  Maybe their defenses are better than people think?

Frankly, a lot of offenses have looked like crap so far this year.

A few have looked sharp, but more have not.

And I will always blame execution over game planning because having coached and played sports all my life albeit not at this high level, I know that execution is almost always 75% of the problem good or bad.

You're right, I just can't compete with this kind of compelling analysis. :poo:

Certainly, you must be the final word on the Panthers problems.

I think you started the name calling. Act like a douche and expect

to be called out on it. If the glove fits.......

Cam is coming off major shoulder surgery that forced him to miss all but a handful of practices in training camp and two throws in the preseason. That he's being blamed for the offensive woes is laughable.

I'm not a huge Shula fan, but he WAS our O.C. during a 15-1 season that saw Cam win MVP. If you want to find the biggest single difference between them and 2016-now, look no farther than the offensive line.

Shula is clearly a second-rate O.C. but no coordinator can succeed when both OT's are MAJOR liabilities in pass protection. You can disguise that weakness in the short-term via playcalling, but in the long run it's going to sabotage everything you try to do on offense, as we have seen since Super Bowl 50.

    • Yeah that with the Taylor Moton clip from yesterday...These guys have felt completely hamstrung the last two weeks
    • Our receivers were right there on the field, they also watched Bryce on film, and it sounds like they're looking forward to Dalton. Xavier Legette on Andy Dalton: "He got a fine understanding of things. I like the way he throws the ball and how to position it, so I feel like we going be good... On the go balls, he knows the right timing and the right among of air... The deep ball that's something I feel I'm good at, and that's something I been working on at practice [with Andy]... I ain't talked to him [Bryce] about it [the benching] yet, but we just got to continue to play. Next man up, and it's Andy."   Diontae Johnson on Andy Dalton: "A vet who's been back there for a while and knows the game, so once you have a guy like that back there, it allows you to be yourself more... He takes a lot off our plate just by having that experience knowing what to do, getting us the right calls, knowing when the pressure is coming..."
