Panthers Have No Interest in Shaun Smith

LOL Are you really trying to grade a players value based on some random comment from a disillusioned ex-fan?

Yeah, Panthers fans made similar comments when Jenkins left. Fans always talk bad about a player after their team kicks them to the curb, especially if that player was unhappy with the organization and took a swing at their pretty boy QB of the future.

I was about to say the same thing, but beat me too it.

Well, I had a guy come into work today and we started talking about Football. He said he heard on the radio that the Cowboys were trying to trade for Steve Smith, wtf? Then I read on Pat's chat on Espn, someone asking him if this could happen. Has anyone heard about this? I didn't want to start a thread because I don't want people to start going crazy. Probably just a rumor and not true, can anyone ask Gant about this? I would be pissed and fall into deep depression if this happens.

I'm just pointing out that not everybody thinks Smith is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and there just might be a good reason why the Panthers don't want him other than them just refusing to get better.

Nobody saying that all we are saying is he is better then Burton and Hayden (which is all he really has to be too atleast get a call from the panthers) and maybe better then Hollis. Marty is not doing his job if he has a player who has produce atleast in the last 2 years like smith has in FA and not give him a call and keeps putting Hayden out their. Who (i don't care what anybody says) he sucks and will get player behind him hurt.

The ? is can he contribute more then Nick Hayden, Burton, and Hollis? If the anwser is yes to either 1 of these players then why not give him a shot. Or you are not doing your best to put the best players on the field.

It was an attempt at sarcasm.

Of course I would sign him.

Shaun Smith has been cut by about 5 teams in 6 years, but had one good season in Cleveland. I just don't understand the angst over the Panthers not signing him. Does anybody here even know if he was playing NT when he had his one good year, or was he playing DE?

So why was he only able to do it for one season? Was it a fluke, or is he steadily getting better? And if he is, then why in the hell would Cleveland let him go so easily?
punched brady quinn in the face

repeatedly got into loud arguments with coaches

playing for a team run by morons who hired a monkey to coach their team who's bright idea it is to get rid of any players with talent.

just a bad mix. bad attitude clashing with people above him who have no leadership skills.

So why did Dallas, Cincy, Detroit, and New Orleans all decide to get rid of him? If it was one team, I could understand, but this guy has been bounced by a lot of teams for a guy who has only been in the league for 6 years.

Maybe he would help us a little bit, but it sure seems like this guy has worn out his welcome pretty damn fast everywhere he's been. There must be more to his problems than Brady Quinn and the Cleveland coaches.

Blah... First of all he had had more than one good season. Sure you people only look at stats he had only one good year. But he had som good years in Bengals. When he was hired he was helping them improve a bad run D. And because of these abilities he stayed with them until he was a RFA and the Browns took him. Up until then there was no big problems with him.

He got to Browns and both played the NT and DE position in their 3-4. He was by war best at the NT position bud for some reason the Browns wanted Rogers and he was back at DE. Now he punched pretty boy Quinn and everyone turned against him in Cleveland.

After those problems he god axed. There was many team interested in him at that time but Lions offered the most money and could offer him a starting place. In preseason he yelled at Browns GM in the player tunnel. He also told the Lions that the waterpill thing was coming and they decided to cut him and go in another direction not cause they did not want him.

And he was cut by Dallas, Cardinals and Saints but without playing. When he first got playing time at Bengals he showed his abilities.

He is by far the best DT option out here. We have by far the worst DT situation in the league. He is better than Hayden and Burton and he is much younger than Hollis.

No he is not the best DT in the game. And yes he got baggage. Bot come on no one here is saying to sign him for 8 years 100 mil deal. Give him a one year deal.

Looks like this thread will go one for 10 more pages and why? Why aren't we going to overlook all his issues and get him. It isn't because we don't want to improve or any other stupid reason brought up by people on this board. Players have to have more than talent to be a strong contributor. Smith is a problem and has been for years. We don't have the locker room to handle controversy and more issues. If Steve Smith is the problem you believe, then why would that justify adding another troublemaker to the mix? And if Shaun Smith is so great then why hasn't anyone picked him up yet? He is not that great of a big body. At 324 he is only 20 lbs or so bigger than Lewis and the same size as Burton.

I don't see why anyone thinks that the positives out weigh the negatives. As fans we can argue ad nauseum but in the end do anyone of you think you really know better what it takes to be a good DT more than professionals who have their job on the line if they screw up.

In my unprofessional opinion we are better off sticking with Hollis and Burton and hoping for the best versus bringing in a guy who has already shown he is trouble and disrespects authority.

Bootom line is he will never be a Panther so why waste the argument. Lets argue about something that matters.

Smiths total salary was 2.15m for one year. Thats more dough then we started the regular season with, not including the multiple signings of late.

Team can not afford him and no one, but a bunch of nim-comp-pumps; wants him.
