Why Carolina will have the #1 defense in 2017

Thompson is an great outside LB/buffalo nickel player. He is fast, and is getting better at reading the plays. The nickel back was brought in for depth. Not to replace Munnerlyn, who can also play outside if injuries dictate.

Is he that fast?  He doesn't look it on film. But I never really watch all 22 or non broadcast of the Panthers. I just don't see him as that fast

#1 defense needs better depth on the line and better package players for nickel and dime. You got Seymour from the Bills. Good inside man coverage guy. The pieces are there for the secondary depth and packages. Just needs to be coached up.

The black of depth on the front 7 is terrible. That's the biggest weakness. Today's NFL needs rotation. Watch the bills this weekend. A $100mm DT playing about 50% of the defensive snaps.

Someone would have to be retarded to think we dont have depth with our front 7

quit looking at madden ratings

Can't see it. A few tweaks will have to be made. Next year, I believe so. Next year with the right additions it'll be a playoff team and contender. This year, I don't see anything outside of top 5 defense but top d is a big accomplishment. Kansas City, Seattle and a few others are strong. Very strong.

NFL.com has some clickbait worth stuff, that's all this is

Kansas City is going to suffer without berry. Seattle has a chance mainly because thier division is weak offensively and I believe the Cardinals offense will suck with an aging Palmer and fitz while Johnson is hurt.

we have the best offensive division so it will be hard to have the #1 defense this year.

I think they'll be fine without him, still a highly skilled D. I know it certainly doesn't help.

Facing drew brees never helps anyone. Well, depending which Brees shows up. But I've never liked him, he's a dick. The Bucs are supposed to be so good every year but meh. Atlanta is Atlanta and Julio is amazing.

The division alone doesn't help and likely Brady will be up to speed by the matchup with them, and the Lions look potent.

It'll be a lot of good experience for the team.

You don't think this a playoff-caliber team? C'mon man. There is no sure thing in the NFL, but if Carolina doesn't make the playoffs this year, it'll be a huge disappointment and frankly shocking.

If any of this has already been addressed, my apologizes.

It took Norman 3 1/2 years to get where he was (as well as a long benching) before he woke up and became the next coming...

Bradberry is now a year more experienced. Has the #1 locked down. Norman wishes he was half the DB of James at his stage.

Captain can coach Worley to be our #2 in a few weeks! Loftly, but yes! We have plenty of #3'/Safties now that our weak link is covered.

Yes. Maybe not by statistical metrics if our offense can't sustain drives like in years past (the end of last game offered hope though) but in terms of which defense is the toughest to go against, yes.

I'd like to have a true elite every down DE but I still think we can be the best.

In addition to the game-ending 8:48 drive, Don't overlook the nearly 7 minute drive in the late 3rd Q when Bradberry & Worley were off the field getting IVs.  Our offense totally dominated the 2nd half.  15+ minutes on two drives.  Color me very impressed.  Our defense could be AMAZING if our Offense can assure them increased rest.

He played some rb and safety in college. Averaged 7.5 yds per carry as rb. He ran a 4.64 but plays faster than that.

Without Eric Berry, chiefs won't have poo for a defense, I'd say we are better then them, Seattle lost some pieces too, I don't think we will be the TOP D, but we will be better then those 2 at the end

Wasn't it shocking last year?  Everyone, including myself saw playoffs and a big push. But it didn't happen and no one really knows why. Until the team does I won't expect much. This is Atlantas division right now

    • What are the matchups, stats and superlatives?   I think this will be a hard game. Bucs are a very balanced team on offense:  7th  in total yards per game, 7th in passing, 10th in rushing. Baker is having another career year even better than last year but despite missing his Godwin and Evans. Bucs defense is poor (29th) particularly passing defense, but we’re also depleted in our receiving with Coker and Sanders likely out. Running Chuba is key but their defense is better against the run. (16th) I think this is likely going to require us to score a lot of points to keep up and hopefully the home field advantage tips the scale in our favor. My other concern is our run defense and being able to stop their rookie study Bucky Irving who the Bucs have shifted more carries to recently and he’s averaging 5.4 ypc and knows how to get into the endzone with 5 TDs so far.
    • This is nonsense and you know it. People will be happy when we are consistently and convincingly winning games against good teams. There are people in here talking down to others after losses and barely beating the terrible NY Giants. If you want to strut around here like only you are a real Panthers fan and rage pooing posts because your jimmies are rustled then hey good luck with all that. I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving.
    • Who had the massive meltdown last year? Hope they feel better this year.
