I think it may just be for illustration purposes as the ring can't be seen easily... hence why it's only now been discovered.

Saturn is about 10x farther from the Earth than Mars is...I don't think that's "close."

Well, about a year ago an asteroid the size of Rhode Island flew by the earth and no one even noticed. Only the following day did the news report it.

There's no way you can downplay the distance Saturn is compared to Mars. This article involves an earth orbiting satellite, but Cassini actually traveled to Saturn(still there I'm sure). People were impressed in the 'post a pic' thread that a military sniper shot a terrorist from about 700 yards away(0.4 miles). Well, Cassini was essentially a bullet shot about 800 MILLION miles and hit the target. 140,800,000,000 yards. It's an astonishing feat yet no one really seems to care(no political or 'national pride' to be gained from it).

The recent knowledge gained about Saturn is astonishing.

The Apollo missions took a little over 3 days to get to the moon

And it takes about 200 days to get to Mars...

Cassini took 6 years and 9 months to get to Saturn.

The moon is like our neighbor, Mars is the next county, Jupiter is the next state, and Saturn is a whole other country.
