Prepaid phones and service

Off on a tangent, but, since I don't have kids....

At what age are most parents giving their kids cell phones?

For what reason are parents giving their kids cell phones? The overwhelming majority of parents today grew up without a cell phone until they were adults, why is it so important to give your kid one?

Really just curious...

I gave my daughter one at 12 years old and most kids her age had them by then. I have joint custody so it was a good way to keep in touch with her when she wasn't with me and that age is hard enough at school without being known as one of the few kids that didn't have a phone.

She proved to be responsible at that point, did well in school, was a great kid overall who gave me no issues so I felt if it was important to her to have one, it was something I wanted to provide. Maybe she just wanted to fit in and begin feeling grown up but it also taught her the responsibility of taking care of something of value also. No regrets.

Im using Metro PCS with the $60 unlimited data, talk, and text. Its just a flat $60 every month, no tax, no extra fees. I got the $99 ZTE Max Pro when first signing up with them, its a very nice phone but huge and alot of screen realestate. Have to get a good case immediately with smart phones nowadays, they will break if you drop them on any hard outside surface like concrete. Had a friend who had the same phone and didnt get a case, broke the phone on the 2nd day he had it getting out of the car and it just slid out his pocket and hit the concrete, cracked.

It's really more of a safety thing to give a 12 year old kid a cell phone. They all are going to have their laptops, tablets, Nintendos or what have you by then. This electronic device might just make a difference if they need help.

Myself I never leave the house without my cell phone for a myriad of reasons, same with a kid.

Looking to get a prepaid phone for my sons to use. MetroPCS, Virgin, Boost?

Anyone have any experience with these? Recommend a decent phone for about a hundred bucks? Not looking to break the bank to make porn watching more convenient for them.

Have any grandparents who are thinking of changing their service? The best deal for unlimited service right now is TMobile's 55 year old plus deal. 2 lines, $60. Add a Samsung Galaxy J3 or J7 for cheap. Can't be beat. Only one person on the plan has to be 55.

I currently am using Virgin. It is pretty reliable, and it is $35/month for unlimited voice and text, along with 5 GB of data. I got an LG Stylo 3 phone for $129 + tax at Best Buy. Pretty good phone for the price.

I'm 6 yrs with this plan. Only thing it's been hit or miss with strength of signal. But i can't complain too much for $35 a month when most everyone is in the $100 range.

No kidding. My signal is great outside at my house, but I get spotty 3g/LTE inside.
