Honest question about Shula....

You are arguing a Fozzy Whitaker play in the first quarter was a great call.

lol

I'm not saying it was a great call. Watch other games. No team has "great calls" on every single play. There are far more runs for 1or 2 yds than there are 20yd runs every single week in the NFL. Like I said, a lot of plays are there to set things up for later in the game or to just get a feel for how the defense will react to a fake end around like that was.

Shula has some good plays you can't deny that but other areas are lacking. Like he's terrible at getting a QB in rhythm. He will absolutely start with a double run then a pass. Then do it again then throw in a deep play, then pass 3 more times short. It's just terrible for a QB warming up. He's weakness is his game play calling and adjusting. His strength is is goal line plays and use of players in his system.

Cam could have audible out of that & any play. It really comes down to the QB at the end of the day.

We finally agree on something. In fact, RR said the TD to Shepard was an audible by Cam. He can audible any time he wants and he can hit the check down whenever he wants, unless of course we're losing with seconds to go and we have to have a score right now.

Stop. Using Fozzy before CMC was absolutely dumb.

Stop pretending when the one carry Fozzy gets during the game matters in the big picture. Could just have well been a decision made based on how the defense was showing.

This whole narrative has become absurd and it's got nothing to do with logic anymore.

Having fozzy active over CAP is dumb. I know the argument about being Stewart's backup but Fozzy is CMCs backup

Why? He is pretty much even with CAP. They just have different styles and Fozzy can return kicks in case Samuel gets hurt again, which is clearly a possibility. It's not like they used him as a work horse RB anyway.

In eight years as an OC his offense has never ranked in the top ten in yards and only once ranked in the Top 15 (eleventh in our SB year)

In eight years as an OC his offense has only ranked in the top ten in points once (first in our SB year) and only one other time ranked higher than eighteenth (fifteenth last season)

It was great to see the team lead the league in scoring two years ago but his career statistics show it to be an outlier.  The team eighth in giveaways that season (fourth in '13 was the only other time in the top ten) but first in turnover margin, which leads one to believe that the defense causing turnovers was a catalyst in the eleventh ranked offense leading the league in scoring.

Not trying to take anything away from him in '15, it was his best season, but outside of that one season his peak has been a league average offense.  Mediocrity should not be the goal.

We will never find out until Rivera/Shula are replaced how good this team can be.

Rivera is a defensive type of coach.  He knows defenses and Wilks and him are on the same page.

Offensively, you give the reigns to an OC that has no imagination, can't make half time adjustments and IMO calls some of the worst plays at the worst time.

If I am a defensive minded head coach.  I am going after the most brilliant offensive mind I can find.   As much as we all hated Chudz he had an amazing offensive mind.

This 1000%. Take away all those turnovers in 2015 and the offense doesn't come close to highest scoring in the league.

watch other good teams. Our plays look pedestrian most of the time.
