I have issues.

Issue #1 Cam is still locking on to Kellvin Benjamin

On the long ball to Kelvin Benjamin that was intercepted, Devin Funchess was the better decision. One on one with no safety help, and had a step on his man. Cam never looked his way, however. Not even to look off the safety. Cam looked Kelvin's way from the get go.

Funchess actually does beat his man for a good shot at the TD or possibly a pass interference call.

You can bet your bottom dollar that teams game plan for these tendencies by Cam. If we notice it, they sure as hell notice it.

Issue #2 that play call and design was horrible to begin with.

It is first and 10 and the best thing we can come up with is send two large slow receivers down field 40 yards?

Isn't Damiere Byrd and Curtis Samuel or hell even Christian McCaffrey on the field?

Isn't Cam supposed to be getting rid of the ball quickly? He wasn't sacked on this play, but he was hit, and right on his repaired throwing shoulder. That ain't great.

All of this on a first and 10 while playing with the lead? Fug me.

If the 49ers were a NFL caliber team, this could have been the difference between a W and a L.

I cant blame Cam for that play. That was a highlight reel interception. Almost as good as the Norman Interception in the end zone against N.O. years ago. Funny thing is...every qb on every team misses/doesn't see/doesn't care about wide open receivers and instead tried to force more difficult passes on occasions.

True.

But some more consistently than others.

The truly great QBs minimize that and spread the ball around.

Might be why Cam had his best year with Kelvin out.

    • Regardless, Dan overpaid  I like Moehrig but he ended up with the highest contract for a safety. Patrick Jones has no business getting the deal he did. People look at sack numbers and that’s silly. It was the same thing as Wonnum. I went and looked at a few of his sacks and like Wonnum’s he benefitted from being the free rusher on a blitz  It’s so important that they’re smart with their money as we get into Young’s prime years. We got into cap trouble with Cam and I really don’t want to watch that whole story repeat itself
    • The terrifying thing about us drafting an athletic phenom that needs significant development is that it begs the question, how many of our draft picks ever actually develop? Seems like most of our guys are as good as they're going to get on the day we draft them. Hopefully this new staff can reverse that trend but it just seems like we've been drafting highly talented developmental prospects for years now and then completely fail to develop them.
    • So many times I’d rather them just not sign anyone and carry over cap space. We aren’t winning the SB next year. So at this point unless you’re signing an actual difference maker don’t bother  This is why I was fine paying DK 30 million a year. Otherwise they’re just going to burn it on crap anyways. At least someone like DK impacts our entire offense as a whole and defenses game plan for him. I can promise you no one is game planning for Patrick f’n Jones or Tershawn Watson
