In-Depth - The McCaffrey Effect: Carolina Panthers benefit from CMC’s presence

Carolina Panthers runningback Christian McCaffrey had a hefty workload against the San Francisco 49ers. The rookie runningback found himself with 18 touches on the day for 85 yards, averaging 4.72 yards per touch. While playcalling at times hampered his potential, he still found ways to make an impact on the field.

Even so, it’s what he did to the 49ers defense that really stands out. Not only did he find holes and lanes against the defense, his presence forced the defense to account for him.

So, it came as no surprise to see glimpses of the potential this offense brings. Many plays were possible because of the match-up problems McCaffrey presents.

So, how does he create these match-up problems? Did we see all of CMC, or is there potential for even more? What did defenses do in response?

All that and more, right here:

Me when we're on offense and CMC is on the field.

Also you know you've got a great player when it seems like special attention is being paid to him by other teams. Nevermind he's a rookie and I know it's just San Fran but these guys are still paid professionals. You can tell their coaches had it in their minds to not let CMC beat them. Huge sign of respect.

Soloman Thomas probably had to give a little lesson during one of the meetings I bet.

Yes very true but I think besides showing respect for the rook it could also show just how little  respect they have for  KB and funch.

Like munnerlyn said minny didn't even game plan for funch.

Funch I can agree with but I think teams have respect for KB. We did call an extremely conservative game though so the jury is still out imo. Hopefully Funch breaks out this year (it's so weird I feel like I've said that before).

Funch was decent in the looks he had. He runs the Bang 8 route like no one else.
