Show Me the Evolution

I feel you gotta take into consideration the game plan today with Cam's situation, They were looking for short gains (take what the defense gives you), few deep strikes just to keep them honest. I don't think they were trying to force it to CMC, but rather trying to force short completions, so Cam didn't have to sling it around. Just my opinion, but I don't think the evolution happened today because it wasn't part of the gameplan. I think they knew Cam would need a game or two to get with the program. (Also, Cam missed some throws, offense should have put up 30+)

Lots going on today with a west coast first game, Cam having only two throws in preseason, and CMC having his first game of the NFL. What I liked was Cam using his WRs to take advantage of coverage and using CMC to draw coverage. What I didn't like was we have no speed at WR and we ran way way to much. Shula is still terrible at getting a QB into rhythm with play calling and we still have a ways to go to call what we did evolution.

While I share your point of view I'm going to reserve my judgment over Shula and this new offense until week 3. This was essentially preseason game 5. Rusty and timing off allover.

I give the coaching staff credit in keeping the offense bland. I wouldn't mind if we could play next week just as vanilla and gradually introduce more nuances.  One series in a preseason game is not enough for the team to prepare with the QB.  We had a relatively easy game and no injuries to speak of.  Come back watch film and clean up some of the stuff for next week.

Can't expect us to be that aggressive playing against that team. We could have run up the middle every play and still won

I think I'm out of pie or poop, I guess that will depend on the week...

This recipe has been a staple, finally it might sell.

The evolution I want to see was impossible given Cam just doing awful in the first half. Luckily, Shula expected much less of Newton in the second half and was able to because of the score. Still, the play calling was meh and seems to me a more aggressive team with their identity down, unlike the 49ers who have new everything, will be much much more of a challenge to beat.

    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
